Hey guys, I've been looking into laptops for awhile and the ASUS X550LNV-NB51is in my price range, while still looking good. How well would it perform playing more intense games? I specifically want to know how it will do in The Shadow of Mordor and ArmA 3, but any relevant information is welcome!

Its probably going to be useless... Honestly... It just doesn't have the power to game on full HD res with that punny i5+840M... Look at something like a Asus G750JS for 1200... Much better deal.. or a Sager Np8278-S for 1400 with 970M.

Best idea would be to fill up the what notebook to buy form and ask your question there...

I already did that, just checking to make sure it's a decent computer. I literally cannot spend ANY more money than this thing is worth, and it looks like it'll handle my current games better than my desktop. I've researched, this "puny" processor makes my desktop look kinda depressing, and the graphics card is a boost, if only slightly, from my current. I'm not going to run battlefield 4 or anything, ArmA 3 is my biggest concern.

It's not a bad laptop, to be fair. It will run said games, but don't expect much out of it. That i5 is a low voltage CPU, so it's going to hold back your gaming potential, as will the 840M.

Have you considered building another desktop? If you are looking for a gaming machine in the 600-700 dollar price range, nothing laptop-based is even going to compare to the desktop you could build for that price. Obviously, if you're looking for portability this is going to be out of the question, but you did mention you already had a desktop (so building another more up-to-date one might be a better option if you're going for a gaming machine).

I'd like to upgrade my desktop, but I'm governed by fascists, and need the extra freedom that a laptop provides, so that comes second to being able to do my stuff outside of home, sadly. I know that it's not going to be great, but my PC is currently running a Phenom-II X 830,2.8GHz and a GTX 650 TI, with (I believe) 4GB of RAM. I've been told that this laptop will outperform my current setup, which is what I was checking here. Guess I should have put my product number in the OP :)

I have a WW601AA HP desktop with an upgraded power supply and a GTX 650 TI, can anyone compare the two computers? I've done my research on the parts, but now I'm unsure...

I'm definitely going to go for that one, no compromises necessary here! Thank you foot showing that to me, it's like a work of art (at least on the inside), that's basically the specs I was planning to upgrade my PC to, but now I'll just get the laptop!

    Im glad I helped.
The X550jk is basicly an N550jk with a cheaper chassi and *probably* a TN display instead of an IPS one. however it is cheaper and has more cooling grills which better in terms of temperature than the n550 that has praciticly none. especially good when it runs that quad core 4710hq and 850m at full speed.
