The resolution alone allows me to fit a statistics program window along with text editor for Matlab or FireFox/Word if working on something else at the same time. The i7-4558U also helps.I had several laptops before this (Dell Latitude XT, Macbook Air, MacBook Pro 15", Lenovo T410s, Sony Vaio Z23), and the Zenbook is honestly the best laptop I've ever owned. The keyboard is great to type on, the touchpad is pretty much perfect. The only thing I miss is the integrated WWAN on the Vaio, but I ended up getting a T-Mobile Hotspot Pro which allows me to share LTE data with up to 10 devices and the monthly fee is less than Verizon so I don't view it as too much of a negative.

I feel like a broken record but... Still no word at all on the white color?
Any idea how to get this information from Asus? I've tried Twitter but they don't respond.
This is a great laptop, but the complete lack of information from Asus is very frustrating. -

I twitted Asus!!

Has anyone managed to determine which UX301 models might be available in the UK and when?
Nothing on ASUS
A few retailers claim to have stock and could "deliver tomorrow" see here for an example
UX301LA-C4006H | Asus ZenBook UX301LA 4th Gen Core i7 8GB 256GB SSD 13.3 inch Full HD Touchscreen Wi - Laptops Direct
The only model that seems about to become generally available in the UK though is the UX301LA-C4006H. Only 1.8ghz No i7, only 256GB SSD and no iris graphics.
Does anyone happen to know if there any commitment to bring the UX301LA-XH72T to the UK? -
I preordered the XH72T on Amazon for $1983, and after my order was accepted, the item was updated to "Unavailable" status and an unknown ship date. Hopefully when they receive these units they will honor the price.
Is any vendor shipping the XH72T configuration at this point? -
nobody yet. -
By the way, for those that are having a problem with Windows 8.1 scaling in Google Chrome, I found a fix.
There's a way to disable Chrome's internal scaling.
Enjoy!Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
I feel like all of these issues point to a slight flaw in the build quality of this particular unit, but I'd like to get some feedback from other owners before I go out of my way to make a return. Someone in the Infinity owners thread made the point that I should expect nothing less than perfect from a machine I paid this much money for and I'm inclined to agree. However I just want to make sure this is an issue with just my unit before I do anything.
If any other owners have noticed any issues/quirks with the keyboard I'd love to hear them. -
I just purchased the UX301LA at Microcenter and absolutely love it. I was on the fence between this and the ATIV Book 9 Plus and I definitely think this is the way to go. I do have a couple of questions I was hoping people could help me out with.
1. The machine comes with a bunch of junk software. Does anyone know how to do a fresh Windows 8 installation? The reason why I ask if because I don't see any product key and resetting the machine by booting from BIOS puts back all of the software.
2. Any way to combine the C and D drives into one partition? -
Wow, just checked my pre-order for xh-72t @ amazon and is saying "The following item will arrive after December 25, 2013." I guess it'll take a while... lol

I have been using the Infinity for the past few days and I have to say it is a pleasure using this ultrabook. Haven't had any major problems so far but I have a few concerns.
When I download games from Steam it says that the available space is about 50GB . Do you guys know why this is? I know it has at least 230GB of usable storage, but am I missing something here? Also I noticed that sometimes when I open the lid and wake up the laptop from sleep, it looks like everything is zoomed out a little bit. A restart fixes this problem , but is there anything else I can do to prevent this from happening? -

Looks like B&H just got the XH72T's in
ASUS Zenbook UX301LA-XH72T 13.3" Touchscreen UX301LA-XH72T
My order now says "In stock, order sent to warehouse"
Hopefully ill be getting this really soon -
Nice Amassaic, please come back to make a mini-review for us!!

So regretfully, after 2 weeks of using this machine, I had to return my Infinity. I was just having too many issues with my unit to warrant the $2000 price tag. After comparing the touchpad side by side to other laptops and the existing quality issues I was seeing with the keyboard, I decided to bring the unit back this morning and pick up a Macbook Pro with the same specs at the XH72T version of the Infinity. I'm going to trial this Macbook Pro for another week or two and then decide whether I should go for an XH72T ( that hopefully does not have the build flaws that my DH71T had ).
I'm already missing the stunning dark blue glass look of my Infinity as well as the touch screen but so far I haven't seen any build quality issues on this Mac and the touchpad is definitely better. -
I am so happy that some of you are returning your PC's. That just means there are going to be that many more refurbished one to grab at a better price. Keep em coming.

I don't have a Zenbook (yet) but I had the same issue with my new Asus G750 gaming laptop.
Here is what I did:
1. go to control panels
2. select administrative tools
3. select computer mgt
4. select disk mgt
5. delete the volume you want to expand "into" e.g. D, E, etc...
6. right click on the volume you want to expand e.g. "C"
7. right click the volume and select extend volume
Since I have expanded my volume already, I can't bring up the "extend" dialog it was fairly self explanatory.
If not grab a snapshot and I will help out.
Cheers!!
Note: deleting a volume is destructive (obviously) so backup anything you may have on there!! -
I've been following this thread for some time now and because of this forum I decided to buy the UX301LA here: http://computerpirates.co.uk/
They gave me 5% discount with a coupon code and it still works, so I wanted to share it with you: nuria. Hopefully it keeps on working for you. -
Thanks Amassaic for the heads up on B&H stock. Grabbed one UX72T on evening before Thanksgiving and its marked as shipped on Thanksgiving (although sure UPS did not pick it up). Now looks like B&H is out of stock. Anyway, a little side topic but does anyone have a suggestion on best and least cost method to migrate program files and other files from old PC (Windows 7 Home Edition) to the UX72T? I expect the machine to arrive on Tues/Wed 12/3 or 12/4.

The easiest way is to clone the OS over.

FYI: Amazon currently has the DH51T on sale w/ a free $200 gift card.

This is for all the people who spent $2k on a made in Taiwan UX301LA with flimsy lid, laughable battery life for the money and only 1 year parts/labor warranty:
14 HOUR BATTERY LIFE
2560 X 1440 TOUCHSCREEN
MADE IN JAPAN
2 YEAR PARTS/LABOR
HONEYCOMB STURDY BUILD QUALITY
HARMON KARDON SPEAKERS
Toshiba's new Kira Ultrabook promises 22 hours of use on a single charge
Can you say "buyers remorse"? -
-
On another note, I'll be in HK and Taiwan next Jan so I'm interested to see if I can get the i7 white version there. There aren't any keyboard differences between the keyboards there and the US (hate the Canadian keyboards!). Hopefully that works, though I'm pretty sure I'll be paying a premium for the same laptop compared to US prices. Is anyone in Asia (or have been) and see the ultrabook there? -
Is the 4558U/512GB/WQHD variant of the UX301 ever coming to the UK? Only 'ComputerPirates UK' have a unit priced at £1,793 for the 256GB model. It’s so irritating that I’m forced to deal with exports and extortionate prices and a complete lack of availability information. My only option at the moment is to purchase from either Germany or Italy and deal with their respective keyboard layouts.

Cool...for anyone else following this, the reason extend was not available is that Disk mgt can only extend into free space immediately adjacent to it. It looks like you have a recovery partition between the primary and the unallocated space.
3rd party tools, such as you used, will do some mapping changes so the free space is adjacent and therefore can be extended.
Glad you got it setup the way you wanted!! -
Just received my DH71-T. INothing has been loaded on the SSD. The disc drive capacity shown is 95.3GB on C and 121GB on D. This is a total of 39.7 less than the spec of 256GB. According to ASUS Tech Support, the remaining (missing) space of 39.7GB is used for a hidden recovery partition. Is this correct?
-
Khawk...that does sound likely...try Windows disk mgt (see my post above) or a Unix disk partitioning utility like Gparted to view the physical drives and all of their partitions.
My G750 came setup in a similar fashion, not sure it was that much though...remember a 256gb drive when formatted will more likely be 240'ish GB's of actual capacity. -
The KIRA has the option to skip the touchscreen and save almost 1/2 lb, which I like as well as better battery life and an exterior that isn't a fingerprint magnet.
The downsides of the new Toshiba are a max of 256GB of SSD and only the i7-4500u CPU. But without the touchscreen, the V634/W7K is only about $1600, which is cheaper than even the base model of UX301LA.
I guess this will come down to availability. No announcement on availability of the V634 outside Japan yet and I have my order for the XH72T in at Amazon, so I suppose it's up to Asus now to get the UX301LA into my hands before I finish changing my mind. -
Anyone's UX301 get slightly wobbly when it's on a flat surface with the screen open? It only happens on certain desks for me and when the screen is open which means the bottom chassis isn't bent/warped. The hinge/lid doesn't appear to be misaligned or anything but we're talking 1-2mm of clearance.
-
You freikin bozo's are out of control. Go back to your hole.
Go back to some Toshiba Kira forum already. -
I'm really looking forward to when they drop their prices to reality. I remember last May when the ivy bridge transformer book debuted at $1500. Now you can get the Haswell version for nearly half the price... makes no sense to me why the base cpu model is so expensive.

Considering how bad availability is on the i7 (512GB SSD), it's not surprising that they can/do charge a fortune.
Maybe once supply isn't an issue the prices will normalize.
On the other hand, I'm not sure why the base price in general for the UX301LA is so high. As everyone has said, it seems to be about $400 more than it should be. -
Just received my xh72t yesterday from Amazon for $1,983.18.

When did you order the unit from Amazon? -
-
One surprise was how much I enjoy the touchscreen aspect of the experience. I was deciding between this and a rMBP 13 and decided on this for the touchscreen just as a future proof move. So I wasn't expecting the generous helping of added functionality.
I ordered it on Nov. 23.
Cheers -
I have a Surface Pro 2 and there's no keypad on the keyboard. So I downloaded a free calculator and when I need to use it I use the touchscreen. It's faster then using the numbers across the top of the keyboard.
I'm loving the reviews on the UX301LA. I'll wait until next year to buy mine. I also have a Lenovo Helix, so I don't need a third ultrabook right now. haha -

I think it makes a lot of sense on a smaller portable device, not so much on larger models.
ASUS Zenbook Infinity UX301LA - just announced at Computex
