It seems Asus is a bit behind as well, the equivalent model of the Ivy Bridge UX31A was out in late June/ early July 2012.

I'd rather wait a little and have a properly designed product than something rushed out though ;)

Seeing as Asus has yet to deliver any model of the zenbooks with displays not suffering from extreme bleed it doesn't seem to matter how long somebody waits...maybe this one will be done right.

the references start to show on EU sites and the pricing is crazy (about 2200EUR for the top end i7 4500u, thats 2900USD)

Holy **** do you have a link for that? I do look extremely delicious, but that's simply far too much for those specs.

I hope the i7 256GB model will be under $1700. If not, I'll definitely be looking elsewhere.

And if I do end up getting it, I sure hope someone creates a lid cover or a skin to cover up that shiny lid. Not only to prevent it from getting ugly fingerprints, but I also don't want to accidentally reflect the sun into someone's face when I'm working outside.

So they will do RAID0 with mSATA? I was thinking it would have rather the Samsung's PCI SSD.

And on AU sites they said 2999$ AU. At this price better to wait for the Dell Precision M3800

A direct currency conversation from Australian prices would put the high end model at US$2500, basically the same MSRP as the UX51Vz. I might have to reconsider upgrading from my 1st gen zenbook.

note that at this price, it has only 4GB of ram and its an i7-4500U... seems asus has lost it's mind
for the record 2200 EUR is actually $2900 USD (for the model from the french site post)

Ugh it seems like its time for me to look for a new laptop to possibly get. The possible late release date as well as the high price isn't going to cut it for grad school.

The UX31A Silver versions have been going for $600-700 for the past few weeks on deals..and as low as $560 for refurbished models.

I think I'm going to order the ASUS N550JV-DB72T. I keep on waiting for this laptop to come out, but I expect it to release too late for my deadline (school). I really want a laptop/ultrabook with Iris though, but I don't think any are out yet. :(

The UX31LA is like 1750 $ in Norway for 128gb 4gb ram and FHD. The infinity is going to be extremely high priced. In my opinion macbook air (hackintosh) is a better deal than UX31LA.... Asus have prices themselves out of the market. The laptop market is bleeding in terms of declining sale. Will the market like a 3k+$ ultrabook ? I'm not so sure..

You can get a Sony Vaio Pro 13 with similar specs to UX31LA for $1500 in Serbia, and we are not known for good prices. Looking at sony.no, it seems to start at 8000 NOK (1000 EUR or 1326 USD) in Norway. You even get a free upgrade to 256GB SSD until 12.08.2013. And upgrading to 8GB RAM is not too expensive at 300 NOK either. ;)

However, ASUS did have pretty good and competitive prices in Serbia in the past (which for me means it's a better value to buy locally than import from US, pay shipping charges and then ~30% extra for customs and VAT), I am hoping that continues with Zenbook Infinity (I do not care about UX31LA).

at 3K USD it'd need to have a quad core standard voltage cpu and weight 1.2kg..provide a lightpeak/tb port, a dock with an external gpu, etc... like the vaio Z before it was discontinued. (which was also 3K with all this stuff)

but the asus is heavier, and doesn't have a quad core non-ULV cpu.. it has similar equipment to the other brands, heh. its just crazy.

I know it looks good on the paper, but after reading several forum threads, the laptop appears to be really noisy. I've heard that the fan spins up quite often, and that it makes quite some noise. There is also been reported high frequenzy sound. I currently own a Asus u35jc and know how that is :/

Providing references would be helpful instead of hyperbole..

I have not seen anything from anyone who actually has one of these in their hands so post the reference so others can discuss. Additionally without actual dB testing, the definition of loud is different for everyone.

High frequency sound can be caused by coil whine which can depend on the quality of your home AC wiring and power brick.

About the price, Asus France said on Twitter that price would be lower than what already leaked (2200 EUR) "

@Mathieu_led @TymW on a rien annoncé en France pour l'instant et les prix seront bien moins élevés!

I'm betting the release date will be the same as Windows 8.1, so we probably won't see any retail units until mid October. I'm probably getting a N550 as well and save myself $1500 or so for upgrades...possibly a 1TB SSD?

It would make sense that the Zenbook infinity be priced slightly higher than the already existing Acer S7-392. They are practically the same with the exception of the Iris graphics. If they break $2000 or 1500 EUR, they are nuts.

Windows 8.1 reportedly has better scaling, so you'd be able to use such a high-resolution screen without a magnifying glass.

Is the zenbook infinity really going to be like 2000 dollars?
Will the zenbook infinity be able to accept a 2.5" 7mm SSD from what I see there isn't an optical drive so I know I cant put it there. Does this laptop even have a 2.5" 7mm sata bay or is this laptop strictly msata or the even smaller m2? Kinda sad if I can't move my 960GB crucial m500.
What are the storage options for it? Can it hold 2x msata drives that are user replaceable? If I can't get 1TB of ssd space on this machine I cannot buy it.

It's a sexy laptop but the Asus N550 looks like it may be the better option. Sure you get less premium build components and the build quality is surely not at the same level but you do get an optical bay for a 2.5" drive and a HDD bay for a 2.5 in drive. I will put my crucial m500 in this machine and put my 240GB intel 520 back in the ux32vd and stick the 1.5TB HGST travelstar 5k1500 in the n550. So 960GB SSD + 1.5TB HDD. Plus the n550 has a gt 750m discrete card with optimus. Plus it has a standard voltage i7-4700 cpu. And its under 1000 dollars.

Can only do 1 upgrade this holiday season since I'm already down for a pre ordered ps4. And haswell didn't really bring anything to the table to warrant an upgrade for the desktop replacement category. Plus I don't sell my laptops when I replace them. I use the older ones when I take them to less safe places and I need a new ultrabook more then a new m18x (even though the new m18x's are pretty darn cool.) Not saying the ux32vd is not running what I need it to but haswells battery life gains really are incredible and I could use the extra battery life. I want to love the infinity but its hard to turn down a matte non useless touch screen in 15.6" and 1920x1080 and the ability to have 1tb ssd + 1.5tb hdd so 2.5TB of internal space with a much more powerful gt750m gpu that powers off when not in use and since its haswell even though it uses a standard voltage cpu the battery life shouldnt go down that much, will still have the excellent extreme low power idle and even though the active uses more power it will also finish tasks faster and be able to return to low power idle faster so the battery life shouldnt go down too much. And even spending 150 to get the 1.5TB drive the n550 will still be magnitudes cheaper. Hard to pick the infinity over having so much more power and expandability with the n550. Actually the 1.5tb upgrade wont be 150. I can easily ebay the 1TB drive for about 90-100 so really we are looking at 60 to upgrade to 1.5tb and the ssd is free from another machine. Luckily I have a 240GB intel 520 sitting unused that can go where the 960gb m500 is bein taken.

    Looks Awesome.

Although I wish they have a full HDMI out, another USB 3.0 (3 total), and room for a dedicated video card. Take out one of the 256GB SSD and maybe increase it to 14" to make everything fit. It should be about the same price too, if not cheaper. I'd buy that laptop in a heartbeat.

What is the maximum space for storage drives in the infinity and can they accept any 2.5" 7mm drives? If not can they accept 2x samsung pm 841 512GB msata's?

Any word on an official release date yet?

I doubt 2.5. I'm expecting proprietary msata like they have in the past. Probably one with 2 controllers for raid0. They need to keep it thin. I'd like to be wrong because it makes upgrading a pain, but that seems to be the track record for the zenbook lately. It's 2.5 mm thinner than the zenbook prime which had proprietary msata.

Given past Zenbook designs, the UX301LA will likely not use standard connectors for anything. However, if Asus decides to release an updated version of the UX32, then perhaps we will see caching ssd + 7mm 2.5" hdd combination again.

With Windows 8.1 hitting RTM status, perhaps we will be seeing more information on the next gen Zenbooks from Asus.

Fingers crossed this comes out right after the Windows 8.1 release.

I already bought the new Acer S7 and was not impressed... Returned it. I've played with the Vaio Pro 13, also not terribly impressed (compared to the Z), but I might have to go ahead with that purchase if the Infinity doesn't come out by the end of October...

Been following this thread closely, especially with the lack of any info from Asus. Found some parts numbers/prices pop-up recently for the US variation, not sure if anyone has noticed them before:

They all make mention of Windows 8 pro:

    UX301LA-XH72T / MSRP 2199$ (i7/256/4gb)
    UX301LA-DH71T / MSRP: 1999$ (i7/128/4gb)
    UX301LA-DH51T / MSRP: 1850$ (i5/256/4gb)

Hopefully these units will be made available before W8.1

Oh... 4GB of RAM. Is that a joke, Asus? If the i5/128 model comes with 4GB of RAM it'll likely cost ~$1650.

    That's over 1600 dollars for a 4GB machine... lol.

I also saw a couple listings that said 8gb. I guess we can hope for the best... if it's 4 gb, it's not worth it to me. I intend on playing games and I don't think they will play that will on 4gb, especially with the lack of vram. What a joke if it's true. That price is so high that I would actually consider just forking out a little more for the new MBP coming out in a couple weeks.

    UX301LA-XH72T / MSRP 2199$ (i7/256/4gb)
    UX301LA-DH71T / MSRP: 1999$ (i7/128/4gb)
    UX301LA-DH51T / MSRP: 1850$ (i5/256/4gb)

Searching for these exact model numbers return results from a French site showing 8GB RAM. A quick look at specs listed in Australia also shows 8GB for all listed models. So I'm confident what you've found is wrong.
