Are computers more expensive in Australia or what?

A lot of the US retailers are pricing the 1800p laptops for around $1300 (although I'd much prefer the 1080p due to better color accuracy).

Yeah. Welcome to what we commonly refer to as "The Australia Tax" on Hardware and Software.

Speaking of the 1080p matte model, where can this be purchased from? Preferably us keyboard layout but interested in seeing any as I haven't been able to find a single non touch version except the lower res model.

I don't understand why everybody is looking for the UX303ln with 1080 ips MAT display when there is the UX32LN.........................i don't understand neither why asus produce a 1080p mat version ux303ln...............

There are no UX32LNs for North America, only for Europe and Asia. From what I've heard, UX32LNs are no longer available and thus UX303LNs are the substitute.

That, and the 1800p panel that is limited to North America is junk in my opinion. Windows and numerous applications don't fully support high DPI displays, and that will take around 2-4 years to resolve. The 1800p PenTile display also has horrible color accuracy and blacks being rendered as dark gray, especially with yellow being rendered as mustard-green.

The 1080p display on the other hand did very well in the Notebookcheck's review, and is competitive against Apple's displays.

Well, maybe not "junk", but certainly too many issues for my consideration. The "fixes" that Lenovo and Samsung have provided don't completely fix the color problem and have a side effect of killing battery life.

My 1080p LA has gorgeous colors and the slightly green tint to yellow is gone. I would never have noticed the green tint but for all the talk about yellow color issues on the 1800p, and people asking if the 1080p also had color issues.

Jim have you done any Photoshop or Lightroom work on the LA?

I'm considering just getting the LA due to the absence of a 1080p LN in the US.

Just a bit concerned that the i5 and lack of dGPU will hinder photo work.

My wife has a Q501, which is pretty much a larger version of the same machine. She does Photoshop on it professionally with no problems. It's not as fast as her desktop, but it's an Ultrabook CPU so it's to be expected. Upgrading to a SSD helped a lot.

I don't think you're going to have an easy time finding any at any place other than Asus. Zenbook pads have always been rectangular in the past. This square pad is the same as in the unreleased NX500 and is the first of it's kind afaik.

You sir, are mistaken. The UX32LN is fully available in updated versions all over Europe. The 303LN is probably not meant as a substitute for it, as they're both available here. On the other hand, we have not yet gotten any version of the 303LA, or versions of the 303LN with the 1080p matte display.

Sir, I have to enter a caveat. Talking about germany the UX32LN was listed but not really in stock for a while. Today it's only listed on a few smaller shops, more expansive and shippable in 3-4 weeks. There is no option to get an UX32LN from a common shop. On shops like Amazon or Cyberport you will find only identical configurations of the UX303LN for the same price. It seems there is no general rule for europe and every local branch follows it's own plan, and that's why are so many people in this thread are so fancy about the UX303LN with a FHD display - me including btw...

Here in Sweden the updated (i7-4510U) UX32LN is listed in 28 stores. UX303LN is beginning to show up (6 stores so far), but it seem that the UX303LN will only be available with the WQHD screen (answer from the big stores when asked).

If the stores says this because they don't know when the UX303LN/LA with FHD shows up, or if they skip it due to the almost identical specs with UX32LN I don't know :)

Here in Italy we don't have the ux32ln nor the ux303ln!
I hope asus will bring the ux303ln with FHD in September.
    If not, any possible substitute?

You might try Asus tech support, say you need a new rubber foot. They might ship you a new one for nominal cost. Another option is to check the Asus support page and see if there is a repair center near you. They might have a rubber foot for nominal cost, or a nominal cost to replace it for you.

    Good luck, Jim

I wish they had a site like this that shipped to the US. It looks like the LA and LN models share a lot of the same components, as expected. I found it interesting how you could buy the screen covers. I'm assuming it's the aluminum lid and front bezel without the screen but I didn't know you could disassemble units with a touch panel. There are different versions, so I wonder if the screens would be included? Seems cheap if that's the case but I wonder how hard it would be to source the screen if you buy the cover assembly and put it together yourself. Seems like too much effort but could be fun. :)

    Lol, that's hilarious. Oh asus...

Maybe they meant for a product return or something. I know geek squad has access to repair parts but I doubt any repair places will have this part for some time since it's so new.

What kind of updated versions are you talking about? If you are from Poland or somewhere else in Eastern Europe: They don't sell the high spec versions there.

I want a UX32LN-R4029H with a German keyboard. Let me know where I can get it and I don't have to wait another month until the (ugly brown) UX303LN is released.

I also would like to know if UX32LN's are in stock and available outside of Sweden/Norway. As it seems all the Scandinavian shops refuse to ship externally.

Probably because they're aware of the major shortages in the rest of the world.

But I'm wondering why they didn't simply hike up the price instead of restricting their selection of customers?

It's not just one or two products they won't ship, ie, an Asus laptop. It's selling in general. The Scandinavian stores seem to have a blanket "no international shipping" policy. At least the ones that have the Asus in stock anyway.

It's the same with Amazon Germany, they also refuse to sell electronics internationally. It's a bit of a joke really considering the EU was partly formed to improve and make trade between countries easier with less hassle. Seems to have done the reverse.

I've just ordered the LA and was wondering what bloatware was on it and what would be safe for me to uninstall. I am by no means an expert when it comes to this kind of thing, but I would like to free up as much space on my SSD as I can. I looked at the ASUS Utility and Bloatware Guide, but the last time it was updated was 2011 so I'm not sure how relevant it still it. I would really appreciate some guidance.

It's not the "...-R4029H" but "...-R4029P", I don't know if the "H" exists or what the differences to the "P" would be.

Windows 8.1 Home vs Windows 8.1 Pro. Surprised to Cyberport in that list, especially that the UX32LN should be available still in August. Interesting.

There is the ux303la on Amazon.it with the same specs as the France (i5 - 500Gb - 8Gb) and I hope that will also arrive the basic version of the ln as in France, the ux303ln-r4199h. It would be great for who wants to customise this powerful laptop!

If anyone else upgrades their UX303LA, can you please take a picture of where the screen connects to the motherboard and maybe a closeup of the connector. If you're comfortable, a picture of the connector while disconnected would be really helpful.

In Scandinavia atleast, the UX32LN have been released with updated specs, that is with the I7 4510U instead of the 4500U, different brands of network-cards, and also different versions of the battery. For example, my model number is R4076H with i74510U, AC wifi, 50whr battery, 8gb RAM, FHD ips. Also smaller dimensions/lighter than the UX303LN.

Today it got pushed again to 28th.... The earliest listed delivery date for the 303s is the 4th... But also Not confirmed...

I contacted Amazon customer support and they said they don't know when the laptops will be in stock because Asus won't tell them will the laptops will be delivered to Amazon.

They did bump my Prime 2-day shipping to 1-day shipping, though I'm buying an Acer Travelmate instead. I can't wait longer than early September.

EDIT: I also came to the conclusion that the UX303LN's 1800p display's flaws are a deal breaker. A deep shame that there were no 1080p UX303LNs in the North America.

Yeah they never know the whole story. They did this to me last year. I preordered a TX300 when it first went up for preorder and after the first delay, they removed the listing completely. After calling them over and over, they never gave an ETA. Then suddenly it just randomly shipped and it was only a day after they told me they didn't have an ETA. Crate probably just got delivered out of nowhere. Amazon is pretty good for the most part but with Asus stuff, I never trust their dates. They are always late with Asus.

That's a shame. Considering the effort it's taking to get an Asus Zenbook in 1080p Matte, I'm considering jumping ship to the much more powerful Gigabyte P34Gv2. It's pretty much just the look and size of the 303 / 32 that's convinced me to wait till the end of the month to make a decision. If there is no concrete release date by then going to have to abandoned it.

Although I am still hoping that at least one company in Scandinavia will take one for the team and ship internationally, although that hasn't happened yet! :)

    Fingers crossed.

I've also looked at the P34Gv2, but you lose about 2.5 hours of battery life, and it cost about $1500:

    Idle: 8 hours WiFi: 4.5 hours: Gigabyte P34G v2 Notebook Review - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

Idle: 10.5 hours WiFi: 6 hours: Asus Zenbook UX32LN-R4053H Ultrabook Review - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

If you wanted a small gaming laptop, I think you're better off getting the Clevo W230SS (aka Sager NP7338). It has the same hardware config as the P34G, but has better cooling and thus less throttling. It only has about 6 hours of idle battery life, but the NP7338 cost $1000, which is $500 cheaper than the P34G.

Aye, I do want a Zenbook. The only reason I mentioned the Gigabyte is because unlike Asus, they actually respect the UK enough to ship it here and it has respectable specs. I'm not looking exactly for a gaming laptop, if I was I sure wouldn't be looking at a Zenbook :p.

Sadly from what I've gathered over this 50 page thread, it is nigh on impossible for anyone who is not German or Scandinavian to get a decent model. Short of flying to Sweden, buying it in store and flying back, but that's not really realistic.

Just a heads up to anyone thinking of buying from Scandinavia. Although being a QWERTY keyboard the Scandinavian layout differs somewhat from an UK, and even more so to an US. We have the "åäö" letters, and some of the special characters are at different places too. But if you can live with keyboard mapping then it doesn't matter in UK.
But an US keyboard is physically different, with the smaller "Enter" button and so on.

    Swedish keyboard layout

So I saw today this notebook pop up on a lot of sites for US order, Xotic, office depot, etc. Is it finally being launched in the US? Is it recommended? How is the heat? I had a UX32VD but the 620M got extremely hot.... is Maxwell sufficiently better at dispersing heat / is it able to game without cooking itself? I'll be reading through the 17 pages of this thread after lunch, so don't flame me too hard ;)
