Sorry I barely even know which stores sell this. As far as I know, I've seen it at IT City and Power Buy only. Could be more places though. I'm quite new to the Bangkok scene.

Can I confirm if he Powerbuy version has 8GB of RAM?

They do advertise 8 but the official ASUS flyer says 4.

Anyone know where I could potentially purchase the UX303LN-R4141P in the U.S. or if it will be available?

Anyone solved the "problem" of hot air pushed towards the base of the screen?
Even if this isn't a real problem, I would like to use a sort of usb fan to remove the hot air from there when playing!
Is it a good idea? I'm no so happy to use a usb fan...
    Any other chance?

Why does it bother you so much ?
You can't feel this hot air unless you put your hand at the base of the screen.
I don't think it can be harmful for the screen too.

Sorry for the late reply. Asus HK told me they ordered a "new screen" from Taiwan after analyzing the problem. Personally I don't feel it will fix anything, but the point is the laptop is STILL with them. Latest update is I won't get it back until the new year. :(

    Hi!

Thank you for the suggestion. I didn't re-install the touch pad drivers. What I did is, to end every process related with touchpad from task manager and restart the laptop. This solved the issue.

It was strange tho, as I didn't do anything to mess with the touchpad. If it occurs again, I'll keep in mind your suggestion.

    Hello everybody!
I have a couple of questions: is it possible to disable the keyboard backlight leaving the auto-brightness?
How is it possible to switch the graphic cards? The only way I found is from the Nvidia control panel and I think it is not on-the-fly. Is that right?

    Thanks for your help.

The only way to switch graphic cards is through control panel or by programming to DirectX API in your own application. Switching is technically a DirectX/Windows thing. NVIDIA control panel setting just instructs driver to reorder or limit 3D device enumeration for DirectX. On the fly switching is not practical as it would have to shutdown current device, select a different one, and recreate graphical context. You can see that happening on desktop when updating graphics drivers for primary device.

Hi, I just got my ux303ln with the i7 and 256ssd last night. The laptop works perfectly. The only thing that bothers me is that the POST takes 45 seconds to a minute. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. The laptop boots in less than 10 seconds into windows after POST, so I don't think there's a problem with the ssd. I also checked the bios and fast boot is on.
    I'll appreciate any response

Fast Boot on/off does not make a difference for me. Make sure that Windows Boot manager is selected in the boot options under Boot submenu in BIOS.
Also, do you have Secure Boot enabled in Security submenu of BIOS?

Both windows boot manager and secure boot options are enabled. How long does it take for your laptop to boot?

Yes even in old bios boot mode with the right hardware and settings it can go by quickly.

Based on your answers (valid default settings) I don't know what is causing slow boot.
Typically I'm to the login screen in under 15 seconds.

Slow boots are caused by faulty attached devices usually such as usb sticks, optical drives or an internal disk.

I assume you have done the basic checks like remove any discs from the optical drive and ensure the hdd/windows boot manager is the primary boot device?

Hi there, it's not a huge issue (certainly not as bad as the guy above), but I'm annoyed that the asus logo on restart takes 15 seconds before windows starts loading. After the asus screen, it takes only a second or 2, so it's just the asus part that's annoying. My 3 year old dell boots faster.

I have the UX303LN-DB71T. I have looked through the thread, and I tried disabling various things like virtualization and a couple other things. I made sure fast boot was on though I did try turning it off just in case. It increased the asus screen time by 5 seconds or so so i turned it back on

    Any ideas?

On a separate note, I'm having an issue with 2 Windows updates, being KB2971850 and KB2975719 not installing. Anybody have the same issue? I've tried the windows troubleshooter, the fixit program, deleting the residue of updates and restarting the service, etc.

Mine doesn't have an optical drive. I'll go ahead and restore bios default settings tonight to see if that makes a difference. Do you guys know of there's any way to enable a verbose POST? I wanna see what exactly happens in the post process that takes this amount of time

AFAIK that model is only sold in Germany and similar areas of Europe. You'd have to find a seller there that ships to the US. Furthermore, a lot of people are reporting difficulty finding any UX303LN models in those areas of Europe. I also believe it has a QWERTZ keyboard layout, not the US QWERTY layout. The chassis design makes swapping keyboards impractical.

I debated for a while between the LA and LN model and found an LA model at Future Shop (Canada) with i7, 2ghz, 8g ram, 128 ssd, and the 1080p screen.

There was an LN with the i7, 2ghz, 8g ram, 256 ssd, but with the QHD screen at my local Tiger Direct but after playing with it I hated the colours and calibration of the screen so I went with the LA for $200 less. I will be upgrading the SSD anyways and don't really need the video card for gaming (it would be nice to have though). My UX303LA plays NFS World no problem on medium settings so it's good enough for me.

Just wanted to put it out there that there are LA models with the 1080p screen showing up in North America.

I think the LA model on Amazon comes with a FHD screen.
On another note, I restored default settings in bios with no avail. I'm still trying to figure whats wrong with this laptop. The laptop is lighting fast after the initial post.

shayanhe, you have nothing like encryption enabled ? Also, check your settings so that you don't have an option for checking disks at every boot, that could be slowing down your starts.

New poster here, joined today after reading thru many pages here.

I have been having the very same problem. Cold boot sometimes faster than a WIN restart, Restart sometimes 4 minutes before the WIN START wheel starts spinning. Mostly just sits on the ASUS screen watching the paint dry. Worked for 5 days and many hours of trying everything, just decided to RMA it back to Asus.

If anyone knows: is the BIOS or UEFI doing something funny on these UX303LN PCs???

I saw some option in UEFI setting about disabling things but could not get those to work.

Wish I had my config.sys and autoexec.bat back.

I'm sending mine back too. Reading other reviews, it seems like this is an isolated problem. Amazon's customer service is amazing. They already shipped me a replacement. I'll let you know whether the same problem exists in the new one as well.

    This is for: Amifk12's issue;

Go to FIX WINDOWS UPDATE site from Microsoft and run the fix WINDOWS update. I've had to do that twice since I have reset the PC over 4 times.

    Sorry, new here.

I'll take a look at it tonight. As far as I know windows functions normally and the SSD drive is really fast. The only problem is that the POST section, before windows starts loading takes about a minute to complete. I wish there was a way to look at the actual POST rather than the Asus logo

That document is for server boards but some stuff might work for a laptop too. By the way, UX303 has an option in BIOS to launch UEFI shell session or something like that.

I saw you bought an Crucial MX100 SSD: does it work in your UX303? Does the Zenbook have any problems to recognize the SSD?

Some time ago I heard of compatibility problems of Zenbooks with Crucial SSDs. Right now I consider upgrading my UX303LN with an Crucial M550 1TB drive and I'm not sure if it will work...
