Congrats that they have fixed it after all the complications you went through!

how is your battery? as i previously posted i have 10.45% of wear level in just 7 months =\ the most i can get out of my battery life with a moderate usage is 3 hours.

Dunno if its a faulty battery or i have to get rid of asus apps...

My battery life is pretty decent and I have yet to clear the bloat ware. I will definitely take a closer look at that for you though, I'll let you know once I get it back! And I'm sorry to anyone whom I might come across to as whiny for bringing it to the media, but for a $1400 laptop I expect two things:

    A) quality customer service
    B) a quality product

The yellow and scaling issues are definitely bearable but if I can get it done, why not?

since i mentioned CPU, my 4510i operating temps while again moderate usage (web browsing, email, music streaming, NO GAMING) are 50-70 degrees C. Does your processor run that hot as well or i am the only one =\

Update: the turnaround time was excellent - it was assigned to a technician Monday, and I just picked it up a few hours ago. Everything looks great, and they even replaced my top cover, which was scratched. What was the yellow fix that the above posts were referring to?

I am interested to know if it is worth putting a mSata drive in for the OS or will a normal SSD be just aas fast ?

I have a samsung 830 SSD in my old laptop which I was going to use , but I was looking at these mSATA drives thinking I could install the OS's on it

Broadwell models have hit the shelves in Romania if there's anyone interested :
    http://www.emag.ro/search/asus ux303ln

The i5 model with 1080p touch, 256 GB SSD and 8GB of RAM is $1040.
The prices have come down a little bit :D

One question though, is the 4k display worth it?

At the moment I would go for a 1080p screen until scaling in general improves for a media machine.

I'm considering the UX303LA-US51T, with student discount it should cost about the same as ux303la-DS51T, but has double the ssd, problem is, it comes with the HDQ+ screen, while DS51T comes with FHD.
My question is do you think the same fix for ux303ln screen will apply on the us51t model? and is the fix worth buying the HDQ+ for your opinion?

    Could someone answer these questions:

Does the Zenbook has a glass surface over its mousepad ? (this will prevent the touch pad from getting a dirty look over time)

Are the keyboard keys metallic ? (will the text on the keys become worn over time?)

Can one play games on the laptop with a 840m, if the resolution is 3200 x 1800 ? (will the games look bad if the resolution is lowered?)

    Thanks !

To answer your questions about games then you can drop the resolution to 1600x900 (a quarter of native) at low/medium details on quite a few games and it should scale quite nicely.

I'm debating this or dell xps 13. How is the battery life with the new broadwell u5500 CPU, and how big is the difference in battery life between fhd and uhd touch screen ? I'm leaning towards the non touch fhd with broadwell for best battery.

Hey guys need your help badly. My Asus Zenbook UX303LN is stuck in the bootloader/BIOS. I can't get it to load the Win 8.1 system.

    Additional info (hopefully it helps)

    BIOS is v204.

What I was doing before it stuck: I was installing Java so I can install Aptana Studios 3.

    Thanks for any help guys

Hi guys. Was about to purchase a Alienware 13 then switched to this laptop (UX303LN-C4191H) at the last minute with the following specs:

    • Processor
      Intel® Core™ i5 4210u Processor
    • Operating System
      Windows 8.1
    • Memory
      8GB DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM
    • Display
      13.3" 16:9 FHD (1920x1080)
    • NVIDIA® GeForce® 840M with 2GB DDR3 VRAM
    • Storage
      128GB SSD
    • Card Reader
      2 -in-1 card reader ( SD/ SDHC)
    • Camera
      HD Web Camera *1
    • Networking
      Integrated
      Integrated 802.11 a/g/n or 802.11ac
    • Interface
      1 x COMBO audio jack
      3 x USB 3.0 port(s)
      1 x HDMI
      1 x mini Display Port
      1 x SD card reader
      1X AC adapter plug
    • Audio

      SonicMaster
    • Battery
      3Cells 50 Whrs Polymer Battery
    • Power Adapter
      Output :
      19 V DC, 3.42 A, 65 W
      Input :
      100 -240 V AC, 50/60 Hz universal
    • Dimensions
      323 x 223 x 20 cm (WxDxH) (w/ 3cell battery)
    • Security
      LoJack
      Intel Anti-theft
    • Manufacturer Warranty
      1-year limited International hardware warranty.
Gotta say that it is an amazing laptop overall. Battery lasts around 6-7 hours (with wifi and normal use) and the display is much better than my previous laptop (ASUS N56VM). Only issue is that the storage size is quite small which I didnt mind at first but then I realized that Battlefield 4 was 50gbs with DLC :-(.

So is it possible to change the SSD to a larger capacity one I have lying around without ruining the warranty? The screws on the bottom look weird.

And if not, can I backup ASUS backup partition which is around 20gbs on a USB then delete it using the ASUS backtracker without again ruining warranty?

and finally is this laptop able to be overclocked? I am not going to do it as my temps are already in the 70-80's but I keep hearing that this laptop is a good overclocker so maybe a year or two down the lane, I might do so for extra performance. I would also search the thread for answers but not sure how as I'm fairly new to the forums.

    Thanks

Warranty is not related to the backup partition so you can remove it.
You can change SSD. A Normal 2.5 full sized sata SSD will fit.
Though your notebook has place for a second one. (If you place a second one make sure you buy a half mini PCI express SSD as it is not the same size as a default SSD.

CPU Over clocking is locked by bios. GPU over clocking comes available when NVIDIA decides to change their driver and firmware.

If it's being awkward then hold the power button as it starts to load the os. The recovery menu should launch automatically when you power it back on.

    MBR or VBR?

I did load the default setting for bios. Secure boot, fast boot are on. CSM is disabled. etc... Still stuck there.

Doesn't work. I still can't do anything. Is it a great idea if use a windows memory stick to access safe mode?

Thanks for the reply. Just to confirm, would this do for the laptop? http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-KingSpe...973?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c8d0a140d

The half mini PCI express SSD solution sounds great rather changing the main drive. Notebookcheck lists it as a half size mSATA port that is free but I assume that they are the same as both are in the heading of the above listing?

    Thanks again

    EDIT: Grammar

I have the UX303LN, which I have been really happy with. There's an interesting problem though with Facebook and Firefox: none of the emoticons show up. I wonder if someone else here has had the same issue and has managed to fix it?

It seems to be related to Firefox's hardware acceleration. If I turn it off and restart the browser, the emoticons are visible. But this also makes the browser quite a bit less smooth to use, with visual tearing while scrolling pages, and so on. So, I don't really want to turn off the acceleration. Neither would I like to use another browser.

The underlying problem, as far as I have been able to find out, is the integrated Intel graphics card, and it is not specific to UX303LN. My understanding is that it should be possible to fix the issue simply by updating the video card drivers. However, according to the Asus page, I have the latest drivers, and the Asus updater doesn't find any updates for the graphics card either. When I try Intel's own updater, it says something along the lines of the card having been modified by Asus, and therefore I should use Asus's updater (which doesn't have any updates) instead of the Intel one for the drivers.

It's a tiny thing, but if someone has found a solution other than permanently turning off hardware acceleration or switching browsers, I'm all ears.

Thanks for the suggestion, Meaker. I'm a bit hesitant to use stock drivers to be honest, since the Intel updater specifically told me to use only Asus drivers. And I don't think Facebook emoticons are as important to me as to warrant any potential headaches later on with the drivers. :) But I'll keep the option in mind.

Maybe try using the ASUS recovery partition and restoring Windows 8 to a earlier restore point before the issue started if you can access it. I think its F9 as you start up the laptop.

You can also try disabling fast boot/secure boot then enable CMS and try again. I remember having this issue with an older laptop I had and it turned out that the Windows 7 OS was installed incorrectly in the end. It was a different model but an ASUS nevertheless.

    Another observation I made:

when fast boot & secure boot are enabled (CMS disabled), the SSD doesn't show up on the Boot Options.

When it's fast boot & secure boot are disable (CMS enabled), after a few restarts the SSD shows up but system can't boot.

    This is getting frustrating

Really needed to place this here?
Boot USB, remove all partitions, create a primary, install windows. (Make sure it is active)

Disable secure boot and enable CMS.

This is no problem of the hardware but more a problem with your knowledge

Cool. Thanks for the help. Going to buy it next week. Wish they had larger sizes like a 256GB one. Would be perfect. Also I'm all the way down in New Zealand so my options are limited either way.

If you want larger one than you could replace your full HDD mSATA one. (More expensive but cheaper GB per $ ratio)

I got good news for you. (less for me as I was not able to attend lass hehe)I replicated your problem on my system, and after resetting my bios my SSD didn't show up either. Well it did show up, but not as boot partition.
How I fixed my problem/how I was going to fix my problem:
    1) Putt the Windows 8.1 ISO on a USB device.
    2) Made USB device bootable with bootsect /nt60 (Google for more info)
    3) Booted into USB device by BIOS.
    4) Boot Recovery Windows > Repair > Advanced > CMD
5: CMD > diskpart > list disk > select disk 1 (your main disk) > list partition > select partition 1 (your 350 MB partition, this one redirects to your main partition) > active

This command 'active' does the job. I know it seems weird but I think there is some kind of bug in it.

You can always use the easy flash option in the BIOS to reflash it, this would have been my next step if above will not work. Though I am sure it is related to the MBR of the disk, so above steps should work for you as it did for me.

I have microphone problems using Skype, the person on the other side can't hear me due to the audio is recorded very very low.
For bypass the problem, I have to connect an external audio player (hi-fi to aux or TV to HDMI), automatically the PC disable the integrated speakers, and so microphone begin working perfectly.
I just opened an RMA, now I wait for the shipping authorization to assistance.
Very bad start with Asus that I thought was much more reliable (also for this expensive product).
