Anyone else with an ASUS EX303LB Windows 8.1 (not pro) 64-bit, can you check your product key against mine. WTNY#-#####-#####-#####-#9KF3
Don't post your key! Just check if it matches the chars shown. I suspect that there is only one factory key, so a backup of the recovery partition can be shared safely. If yours matches mine... suspicion confirmed.
Two easy ways to get your product key (I would record this somewhere if I were you). Belarc Advisor or one-liner:
wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey
But Why...
I am moving my boot drive to the mSATA 256GB but I want to retain my factory activation and restore path.
I used ASUS Backtracker to create a USB recovery drive. Based on the documentation, it appears to export the contents of the recovery partition to a USB key. Awesome.
I also made a manual backup of the activation store. (" C:\Windows\System32\spp\store")
So I'm just looking to confirm some assumptions before I blow anything away.

Intel caching mode for mSATA drives relies on software.
You should note that the mSATA interface is only 1.5Mb/s apparently. -
he told/confirmed me for 305, 8GB RAM is all soldered so not upgradeable at all,
while for 303, 12GB RAM is max upgradeable (so that should mean 4GB-soldered-fixed-on-board + 4GB/8GB on the other DIMM) -
MyDigitalSSD Mini mSATA 128GB:
Crucial MX100 2.5" 512GB SSD:
That 510MB/s sequential read right there shows you it's faster than SATA 1 or 2 speeds. Write speeds aren't the fastest, but read speeds are comparable to a 2.5" SSD. It's still loads faster than any hard drive. And I like to keep my OS on a separate drive from my data/programs if I can help it. -
Hey Guys, my name is Alan and I have a small problem. My video comes up counter clock wise (clock wise if viewing out from the camera (like an eye)), and I don't know how to get it to unreverse.
Things I've already done:
- uninstalled the driver for the USB2.0 UVC HD Webcam (USB\VID_064E&PID_9700&REV_0101&MI_00), then reinstalled it.
- looked the web for another driver.
- looked into the usbvideo.sys and found its inf file and searched within for an option for "rotate" (i managed to go into the azurewave webcam software for the older g73 laptop and edit the inf there to flip it the right way)
- attempted to install azurewave, but wouldn't install because of "wrong hashes" or something like that..
I can't seem to understand any other reason why this happens either.
Could it be possible that asus installed the camera the wrong way? I highly doubt this though.
I will give paypal gratitude to anyone who successfully guides me to fix this problem -

No Web cams can't be put in the wrong way like that as they are rectangular unless the sensor itself was soldered on wrong :/
What video programs have you tested? -
Does anyone know where I can find replacement keys for the UX303LB? I don't think I can find exact parts since it is a fairly new laptop. Any older models that have the same keys? Also, I did take this bad boy apart. If anyone wants to see the work I did, please let me know.
-
I don't think you can get replacement keys. You'll have to replace the entire top panel since the keybaord is part of that top panel. It's a bear to replace the whole thing too. I did it because I bought a UX303LB from Europe with the 1080p matte LCD and swapped the keyboard out since it was default German.
-
I know the keys are removable because I cleaned some of them, it's just that when removing the first two, I kinda messed up and snipped off a clip

The places I looked for parts just the full keyboard, no individual keys, full keyboard around 140 euros.

Yeah I checked out the website you were talking about
I know it's possible, but they haven't popped out of the market. I'm wondering if the ux303lb uses the exact same keys

Question about ux303lb: Should the fan be at 0 rpm when system is at absolute idle? My cpu is at 0-1%, temp is 45c and fan keeps 2300rpm. I have heard somewhere that it should go totally 0 rpm at some point, is that true? I am just wondering because my battery life at idle / wifi on / screen 20% is 4-5hours which is a little disappointment after reading all the reviews.

I know they're removable. Just good luck getting individual keys replaced.

Yeah sourcing the caps is not going to be easy, all laptops use slightly different keys so they are quite niche things.
-
im planning to get this laptop... there is a promo here in singapore... but the non ssd model.... is it possble to add ssd later?
can it play NBA 2k16 on steam? -
Is there anyway to get a different color on the laptop? I don't want to sound snooty - but this Smokey Brown color on the UB (skylake version) is just nasty.

You could look into getting some kind of coating on it.

I bought my UX33LB a few months ago, it has i7-5500U, 12 GB DDR3 RAM; NVIDIA Discrete GPU GT940M, 512GB SSD Storage
So far I love it, but I would like to do a bit of gaming, and while I did see that Witcher 3 and GTA V, has been played on it, I would like to know if Fallout 4 can also be played?
Thanks for any and all info. -

Have you looked at benchmarks? It will certainly run as you have the right DirectX requirements.

Honestly I have no idea which benchmarks to look at. Should I get some sort of program to run my own?
-
I saw that UX303 has no maintenance cover on the bottom.
Wish to ask, is it possible, and if possible is it reasonably-easy
to remove the battery (without damaging the unit, and possibly voiding the warranty) ?
My habit is to remove the battery when using everyday while plugged in power,
so as not to keep charging the battery all the time and damaging
the battery useful-life. Only when I bring the notebook outside to use then
I'll insert the battery back to the machine.
Nowadays manufacturers tend to have battery built-inside,
possibly to save manufacturing costs.....? -
I'm going from a 13" Vaio Z11 with an nVidia GT 330m to a Zenbook UV303UB just ordered today. The Vaio has continually given me blue screens and sudden shut down issues but not enough to get rid of it, until the fan started dying making the issues worse. I figured after 5 years it was time to lay the Vaio to rest or give it away. Looks like the Zenbook is the closest thing to it for me. One question though; I read someone mentioned this Zenbook has no fan. Is that even possible running Skylake with a 940M GPU?

I prefer black color and matte (non-touch) screen also, and 1080p personally. But yes it is pretty much the same machine, size, weight. The 940m *IS* the 840m. Both are GM108 Maxwell with the same shader cores (384), same vRAM (2GB DDR3 64-bit)

Yes about 50mhz or 4.5%ish clock difference on the core.

Before 2011, I kept my Toshiba notebook battery plugged in and charging at all times everyday and night,
and the battery life died down fairly quickly and I needed to buy new replacement battery.
After 2011, I just had habit of removing my notebook battery for everyday use,
and only charge the battery regularly from time to time only to be used for outdoor.
---> The same battery is still fairly fresh today, and I never need to buy replacement for it.
Guess I have to "assume" for most brands, this new generation of notebook battery all has management charging
circuits, and won't damage the battery if being kept plugged in and charging 24-hours 365-days.
I tend to think they make the battery built-inside and hard to remove (unlike notebook before battery is built-outside),
to save manufacturing costs and to force you to buy new battery accessories after day and night charging when plugged-in-power.
If UX303 sounds hard to remove battery with a dozen screws, then I'll consider keeping the battery plugged in
at all times............ -

The biggest saving for the internal battery is size and weight.

Mostly what the batteries care about is temperature, if you make sure not to leave your laptop in a cold or hot place that will help a lot.
-
but I'll assume the battery of nowadays technology is more durable charging day in
and day out compared to those 5-10+ years ago, since this battery is hard to remove..... -

Battery management has come a long way yes, 10 years ago consumer lithium-ion batteries in notebooks were not that old.

Have any of you guys tried swapping, researching, etc., the QHD for an FHD (vise-versa I suppose). Of course, it comes down to preference here and parts aren't the easiest to come by at a price that'd make the swap potentially more worth it. And not limited to that (display), but as far as compatibility is concerned among the ux303 la/ln/lb line, interchangeable, parts, etc. In hindsight, may have been cheaper to just import the i7 that came standard w/ the FHD lol.

(UX303LB-DS74T (i7-55/QHD/Touch))
I've been using the above as a reference for parts (comparing between models), but I think I've been staring at part numbers for too long haha. Anyways, has anyone done any repairs, swaps, research, etc., using parts a bit more accessible, cheaper, etc.? My main concern being with a display swap ( ltn133yl01-l01 / UX303LN-8A TH LVDS CABLE QHD) to start with, but any info you know personally on how the parts stack up would be much appreciated. Thanks. I've talked to a few suppliers already, I've bought parts and have been refunded, etc.,..nothing available, at least with the limited info I have /knowledge to make a pairing. Running around in circles here to say the least.Last edited: Jan 6, 2016 -

Often FHD and beyond FHD panels use different connectors due to bandwidth requirements.

Hi, me again. Does anyone have problems on Win 10 with touchpad? Whatever Smart Gesture version I install, 4.0.5, 4.0.9, 4.0.12, touchpad doesn't work. It only, partially, works if I uninstall Smart Gesture entirely. Partially because scrolling doesn't work. This is so frustrating, did anyone encounter this issue and how did you solve it? Thanks in advance!

@Tomislav Are you running on a Windows 10 upgrade install, or a clean/full install? (If on an upgrade install, try using Revo Uninstaller - use the Advanced Method - on your touchpad driver/software, then reinstall the most current version you can find.)

@Prostar Computer I'm running on Windows 10 upgrade. Ok, I will give it a try, thanks!

It is still not working

hi all
I will be a future owner of this model (ux303lb i7+128gb+8gb ram+940m)
I have searched the exactly ssd model but no information founded. Could anyone help me? If not enough faster I would consider changing with 840 evo or 850 evo
regards and thanks in advance -
I'd just like to add to this thread with saying I've just removed and swapped the 128GB SSD which came with the laptop (purchased from Ebuyer a month ago) and the SSD is: Micron M600 ( MTFDDAK128MBF)
I've imaged the 128GB, installed a KingSpec 128GB mSATA and now stuck with the fun job of getting the mSATA drivers into the OS so I can actually boot up Windows !
Edit: Clean install and running Asus' eSupport software package sorted it without me having to pay attention. (eSupport package was present on the original SSD, copied it off)Last edited: May 20, 2016 -
Now hit my first issue with the laptop, less than 2 months old and Win8.1 is saying uknown battery and when plugged in no battery.
Anyone have any ideas or quick fixes I can try, I suspect my warrenty is already void because of replacing the SSD and upgrading the RAM. -
-
I've since managed to fix my laptop anyway, fully discharged the battery, disconnected from the motherboard, applied AC power (battery still disconnected), booted into OS, removed the battery driver, shut down, removed AC, reconnected battery, reconnected AC, booted up again, battery was detected and at a stone dead 0%, powered off, charged for a few hours, booted up, removed AC after seeing it was fully charged, let the battery run down entirely whilst idling some music (took just under 8 hours), charged it back up again.
It's showing a 5.2% wear now, the same as when I received it and I've had no issues since. Infact, BatteryBar Pro is now detecting correctly when the battery is full and gives me an 'A/C' message, previously it would just hold and show an approx 98.8% charge message.
