The only thing that really holds me back from this particular Ultrabook is resale value.

Are the resale values of Ultrabooks as good as Macs or do they still drop to almost nothing within a few months?

Nobody has any ideas, eh? Well, I guess they are fairly new.

Yeah, they're still fairly new and resale value is dependent solely on the demand for them. If you have one right now, I imagine the resale value would be pretty high as they're decently low supply right now and everyone wants one. If that holds true for the future, then the resale value will probably remain fairly high for these.

It pains me to say this, but there a very few brands that have the resale value of Macs. From my personal experience the only brand other than Apple that has a great resell value is Alienware. IMHO the value will drastically depreciate sooner rather than later.

Asus Zenbook is a brand new idea. UX32VD-DB71's 13.3" ISP display is also a new technology. It is not possible to guess the resale value. The unit is a hot sales item and all distributors and resellers are trying to get some units from Asus.

I'm not going to predict resale value but I can tell you there are obviously problems with the ux32vd as we have seen reported. I personally received my Ux32VD a few weeks ago and had to RMA it back for noisy fan and heat issues. I can tell you that all these returned units are going to be "refurbished" and will come back on the market at significant savings as "refurbished".
If you can wait, I think that you'll be able to purchase one a a significant discount in the near future.
That is not going to be good for resale value.
I have been waiting almost two weeks for a replacement and I made the decision yesterday to cancel my order.
I just ordered a refurbished MacBook Pro from the Apple store and I'm going over to the dark side... :)

PS. I actually saw a refurbished UX32VD on Newegg very briefly for $900.... it wasn't there long before the listing disappeared. Now Newegg list it as discontinued.

Warning: unless you're planning on switching over to OSX (or running inside Parallels), be aware that the way they set Boot Camp up sucks hard. The drivers are okay, but Boot Camp doesn't allow a foreign OS to take over fan controls, so it's twitchy at best.

I'm actually trying to switch from a Macbook over to an Asus right now because my Macbook can't tell when the hell to turn the fan on/off, and I end up getting burn marks on my legs. There are ways around that, but it's basically a "tell the fan to stay on all the time" kind of workaround.
