I have some questions on the ASUS eeepc 1000HE. I was wondering, when running on the battery is performance degraded? For example:

    - On my thinkpad when I'm on battery the backlight gets dimmer. I don't mean the brightness is turned down. It seems the screen gets dimmer all around so even if I turn the brightness all the way up it's still dimmer than it would be if it were plugged in. This behaviour I hear can be overrided in the BIOS on my thinkpad, but I wonder how the eeepc is.

    - On many new laptops if you are running on battery the cpu gets slower. Is the eeepc like this?

Yes, it does, but you have control over this. At any time, either on battery or while the netbook is plugged in, you can use Fn-Space to switch between Auto (default behavior, slower on battery), Power saving, High Performance and Super Performance. Please note that super performance will eat through your battery in as little as 4h (instead of the more usual 8h30..9h in power saving mode).

What the above poster said. Thinkpads are slightly different in that i believe their is a bios option that restricts the max brightness when running on battery (that you can change) The asus you can change the brightness to whatever you want.

    Thanks for the info.

mullenbooger, I like your review of the 1002HA. I've got a T61p and am looking for a netbook much the way your review says you were looking at one. I don't want to carry around my 15" $1000+ laptop that has all my important files on it. I'd feel a lot more safer and willing to carry around a sub $400 notebook that has only the files I need.

The 1002 is great. The 1000ha or he are similar in specs but will get you a lot more battery life (they are a bit bigger, but they're still tiny). In terms of performance, fo ms office and internet use it is more than adequate. It struggles with flash sites, and higher quality streaming videos though, but 95% of the stuff i do at work is not intensive.

I think asus just released a 1002 with the new chiclet keyboard and in 2 other colors but haven't seen it being sold anywhere.
