My dilema is that I like the quality and performance of business laptops but not the design. I also like glossy screens and would like to have a good graphics card. Somone told me Asus was the way to go. It would my greatly appreciated if someone could look at my needed specsand recommend some models of Asus laptops

Just glancing around, you have a few options. Your budget is definately on the high end, especially considering Asus laptops give you good power for your money. If you really do want good graphics power (which would also enable support for HDTV assisted decoding), the two series that come to mind to me are the F3 and G1 series.

They are both 15.4" widescreen notebooks, the G series is 'gamer' so it has looks that are more oriented to what it seems people think a gamer wants. They both are based on Santa Rosa, and the F3 can be found with the average 8600M GS, and the G1 can be found with the more potent 8600M GT.

I have heard problems with the G1S-A1 screen in quality, but I can't comment further. The G1 is definately the upscale one, and comes with the higher resolution screen (1680x1050 vs. 1440x900).

Also comes with a better GFX card. The screen on the G1 is excellent itself, however due to software issues there is some graininess (there are a few fixes to reduce it, and the guys around here are working hard to eliminate it totally).
