Earlier today my Asus had problems running; it would freeze up after about 10 minutes of use forcing me to restart. It happened every time I restarted. I figured to start it in safe mode however it freezes half way through when it gets to a certain driver. Every since I tried to do that, the laptop will absolutely refuse to boot.

Upon turning on the power, it takes me to the black screen which asks me to run the Windows installation disc once booted and gives the options to start in safe mode, normal etc. However, the problems lies that my laptop cannot load, upon normal start up it just sticks itself on the windows loading bar for what feels like a cursed eternity and it blatantly just freezes up when I try to run safe mode.

After rummaging through my drawers I found the System Restore Disc and the Driver Disc. I want to run them but I can't even reach my desktop. I heard it is possible to run them through BIOS, if so I'd like to know if it solves my problem.

    Thank you very much

Enter the BIOS (should be F2 at POST) and change CD or DVD disk boot priority to be higher than the HDD. Insert Recovery disc and enter the recovery console to try using the command "sfc /scannow" first and see if that works.

If it doesn't, then just reinstall Vista.

It worked successfully. Thank you very much. If only I backed up my hard drive though, all my logs, documents, and pictures are gone.

This is why I have 320gb 5.2k external HD and all my data is backed up frequently.

You could go through the effort of trying a file recovery software to see if you can recover most of your missing files. When you delete a file and gain space back the file isn't actually deleted until you fill up that exact space with other files. I recommend you not install anything else but a file recovery program and see if you can get your files back.
