I haven't ran anything graphic intensive (Besides playing the Crysis demo once or twice) and it seemed OK to me.

Any games you do play normally to give me an idea? And specific temps?

I couldn't give you any specific temps but in games like World in Conflict and Fallout 3 I put my hand near the vent on the let side and noticed that it was pretty hot but nothing that had me concerned. I will see if I can find any software (Or unless the laptop has a program already for it) and see what kind of temps I get while playing those games and a few other s for a prolonged period of time.

If you could/do that would be fantastic. Heat is my biggest concern about this machine. a 9800GS in a 15 inch enclosure just worries me.

I will try to get the program tonight but it's going to have to wait until tomorrow due to the fact I have to wake up early for work (Pushing it as it is right now) So hopefully I can have something for you tomorrow night if not earlier.

the 9800m gs I've seen it hit 85 max on fear 2. after about an 1 1/2 hour and mine is o/ced. so the cooling is quite effective. and dont be fooled by the "vent on the bottom" it is just for looks. i took the bottom off and it is solid plastic :(

So I got some temperature readings while I was playing Fallout 3 on ultra high with no overclocking at 1280x720 resolution.
[IMG][/IMG] This is what it was at before I started. (My laptop was on for about an hour or 2)
[IMG][/IMG]This was in at about 10 mins.
[IMG][/IMG]It remained pretty consistent around these temps for about an hour or so.

I plan on doing a few more games like World in Conflict or Crysis but I hope this gives you an idea of what to expect.

Thanks so much =) It does give me an idea and worries me greatly. While 85C is within threshold it's definitely a worrysome temp for someone like me who will game for 5-6 hours straight. Thanks alot =) (By contrast my overclocked 8600 M-GT usually maxes around 55C) I realize there is alot of power difference but the 8600 is also a heatprone poorly designed MGPU. Not sure how the 9800GS would holdup after 2 years or so which is what i need it for.

Pick up some insurance for your laptop if you are that worried about it.

Insurance really won't help me fear of stability over time. I really cannot afford to be sending it in all the time. I think for my needs I'll simply have to downgrade a GPU level or so to a 9650 or 9700 (Or ultimately consider a 17 inch with more cooling room). It would not worry me so much if he was gaming for 3 hours or so but for it to hit 85C within 10 minutes of gaming worries me for what it would be like after 3-4 hours.

Im getting this in about 3 weeks. Has anyone thought about improvising a real vent on their G50VT? I will probably do all my benchs with the bottom off for the added air flow but wont be willing to mod the case until the warranty is up.

If you get a dud you get a dud and not every chip that comes off the line is equal.

Zohan, from my experience in benching and overclocking desktop cards. Using a constant render as the test (The heat generated playing a game is going to vary constantly) the GPU will heat up to near the temperature its going to sit at. Its not something thats going to be gradual itll jump from 60 to 80 celsius in almost an instant and then slowly get to where its going to settle.

Too many variables in play with an actual game but assuming that 3 to 4 hours down the road the demand on the gpu hasnt severely increased neither will the temperature.

85C does sound a bit scary is this normal? Iv'e never had a laptop GPU surpass 75C on the maxend.

That may not be a good idea, well, I guess it depends on your cooling priorities. The vent is covered so that the air is drawn in from the slits over the northbridge, RAM and HDD, allowing those to be cooled as well (search for a thread started by Vicious a long time ago when he opened up his G50, it explains all this with some nice pictures). If you open the circular vent, you might drop the CPU and GPU temps by a little, but your HDDs may cook. The Clevo M860TU owners had this problem, with really hot HDDs.

How on earth do you get your 8600M GT to max at only 55C ? As I type mine is idling at 79C and it can hit 81C. On the cooler it drops my temps by 20C on average. Without cooler gaming will stick it into the high 90s. These temps are not uncommon for the C90S or G1S however some people enjoy temps over 100 !

Okay I see the fan is really a side draft, i noticed the blades looked like they didnt pull from the top before but it didnt hit me until i saw that diagram, thanks.

EDIT - Thanks to Delta CT as well i missed your post.

DO have a question though, I plan to bench, overclock, and bench on day 1 so if something pops ill just be like DOA and they'll exchange it. I love local stores for that. I was planning on doing it with the bottom panel off, does this sound ike a bad idea given what youve told me?
