I have an asus k50i laptop and the screen is dim (no backlight)
I have replaced the LED screen and still have the same problem. There is an image but no backlight. I have another laptop with an LED screen, so I removed it and hooked it up with the same results.

When hooked up to an external monitor, the display works so I know its not the graphics chip.

My experience in the past has been that sometimes the lid switch will break and then the computer thinks that the lid is closed.

Where is the switch located on this computer and how does it know when the lid is closed and opened???

I am desperate to get this fixed as I need it for school.

    Thanks for help in advance!!

I think the K50 has a magnet in the bezel instead of a physical switch.

I have the screen out of the bezel and dont see anything magnetic in there, I also dont see anything magnetic along the base of the case either...

    any idea on the location?

I don't remember a switch on the LCD, that's why I assumed it was controlled by a magnet.

It should be pretty obvious if there was a switch, but I haven't taken the bezel off of a K50 to know for sure that there isn't.

Are you sure the LVDS cable isn't at fault?

Do you mean the LED cable that goes from the mobo to the screen?

I have not tried a new one yet, as I was looking for the lid switch first before I order more parts

Asus was of course no help in telling me how the lid switch system worked and I have been looking for days on the internet, no one can seem to tell me how it works

I have tried a new led cable and screen and still have the same problem....

do you know of any resources that would point me to how the lid switch works? When I close the lid the monitor still stays on like it doesnt know that its closed.
