One of my neighbors recently purchased a k53e-bbr17, all in all a nice machine for their needs, but they run into an issue of the wireless card card turning off when the computer goes to sleep. Then when it is awoken I have to physically switch it back on with the Fn+F2 and even then sometimes it will not connect and I have to do a repair for the wireless to reconnect. So far I have gone into the wireless card properties and turned off

Prevent the computer from turning off wireless
    &
Changed the power plan settings to prevent the computer from turning off the wireless

but no matter it still turns the wirless card off after sleeping.

    Any ideas?????

    Thanks Andy

interesting because I had the same problem with my k53ta amd laptop after installing 12.8 amd graphics drivers. I was confused why a graphics driver would have any effect on the wireless card going to sleep and not being able to connect after waking.
however, the k53e is completely different.

but you've tried everything that I would try, except trying different wireless card drivers. Maybe rolling back to older drivers might help. Worth a shot.

Yeah I am kind of stumped Link. I'm going to look at it more in depth this weekend. One thing I have not checked, is maybe there is a BIOS setting.

So you go into device manager select network adapters right click wireless and go to power management tab and uncheck turn off device to save power and you are still having problems. Have you had this problem since day one or did you remove or add any programs or updates.

Yes since day one and Yes, have done this, and it still turns the wireless off. This is a brand new machine(approx 2-3wks old), with the usual ASUS bloat. I added a few programs such as: Office 2007, CCleaner, Defraggler, MSE, Malwarebytes and whatever Microsoft updates were pushed. That is about it.

Here is a link below on ASUS support site where you can update your drivers and bios. Have you tried going into the bios and pressing F9 and F10. If you have tried all these can you tell me what version bios you are running as well as for wireless. If you are still having a problem you will have to send your unit in for service.

ci-jeffery, thank you very much for the help!!!! I was able to spend some time with the machine last night and I believe I have it figured out, although it doesn't really make much sense. After checking everything I could think of, BIOS, Power setting, etc.....I was about to give up as nothing was working. Updated the BIOS from 217 to 219, reinstalled the ATK hot key utility, reinstalled the Wireless 3 console, no change. It was not until I went back into device manager and placed a check mark in the "allow the computer to turn this device off" that everything started working correctly. Only thing I can think of is there is some sort of conflict between the Power4gear utliity and the windows setting for not allowing the card to be turned off.

Has now been quite some time with numerous sleep/wake cycles and all is well.
