To analogize the situation its alot like Ford is with the problems they had with a mass of 6.0 Deisels made by International. Ford sends the bill to International for all the extra warranty replacements that have happened and the warranty extensions ford gave their customers to try and save face.
ASUS is most likley taking it up internally with nVidia to cover the cost and ASUS has been replacing, repairing and exchanging for different models to try and satisfy customers though each experience is different.
I never talked to G1/G2 owners if they got repairs out of warranty, though if out of warranty until someone else wins a class action lawsuit it would be hard to force nvidia todo anything. If they can prove nVidia sold them a defective product, which all the evidence out there seems like its obvious they were. Then I would think ASUS could either sue or another lawsuit could take place and easily be won or settled. -
At the moment, Asus has not sued Nvidia for their defected GPUs. It seems like all faulty GPU replacements are currently done out of Asus' pockets.

These aren't the companies suing NVIDIA, it's a class action suit by consumers:

Doesn't asus take care of its customers? Unless you have a bestbuy one lol then its time to join in. Doubt bestbuy will find a problem with a gpu, they wouldn't know how to check
