Check out the answer I got to a submited problem! That Linus Lin guy is either a retard or incredibly incompetent!!!!!! Or maybe ASUS just doesn't care...

    [Problem Description]
"Although I have installed all drivers on supplied CD-ROM (including CPU Hotfix), in the System
Properties window, under the CPU description (AMD Athlon XP-M 2800+), when checked, the
displayed frequency is random, variating from values of 72 Mhz to 789 Mhz. Is there a known issue
with correct display of the real frequency? Does this mean something is wrong that could affect the
    system's performance?

    Thank you!"

And here's the answer (no resolution, just stating the obvious! For this I could've spoken to myself in the mirror!):

    "Dear Customer :

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Linus, and I would be assisting you today.

Sorry for replying you late, the cpu frequency displayed in System Properties is not correct, although the WinXP can adjust the mobile cpu frequency automatically according to the system requirement.

Thank you for using ASUS products and services!

If you have any problem about our products, you can visit our support site below to search the solution at the first time!

I am SOOOO disappointed! Why the hell didn't I choose Dell or Sony...

I agree... their online support isn't the greatest... but their products are cheap and more often than not, they're stable and hassle free.

When you set your Power profile to "Home/Office", is ist still random?

Yep, ASUS isn't known for great customer support, but like AuroraS said, they don't normally have to worry about giving it as their products are normally of high quality and stable. Why didn't you buy a dell??? well there customer support is also not the greatest, just take a quick look at a few of the posts in the dell forum, lots of p#$%% off users there.
As for sony...if you gave me the extra $1000+ to buy one that matched my M6Ne spec wise then hell I would have but for the price ASUS was the only way to go. In the end you get what you pay for. made the choice to pay less at the expense of quality online/phone support. Best advice I can give is to buy from a good reseller that does offer support, or make sure there is a ASUS service center close by before you buy if your concerned about support.

To AuroraS: yes, it's always like that, no matter what profile.

Yup, just like Underpantman said, I fell for the price/performance ratio and 2 yrs warranty, but I'm starting to think if I wuz stupid to dismiss an offer for a new "fallen off from a truck" - if u know what I mean ;) - Sony Vaio (simmilar specs, no IR port, though), as I understand they're much more reliable. That's why I mention it as an option. As for ASUS local support, their answer is "we have to contact HQ for these problems" - fan and CPU frequency - and that turns into a dead end aswell...

WHat happens when you use another program to check CPU frequency... namely CPU-Z?
My CPU frequency in the system properties changes as well... ranging from 240 MHz to 1.5 GHz.
Most of the time, it's at 1.5 GHz, and it depends on my power profile...

It's just that their English isn't very good. I don't know for sure about an AMD chip, but with a Pentium-M, Windows does adjust processor speed based on moment to moment requirements, but it doesn't report speed very accurately. Try a utility like Mobile Meter for more accurate readings. The speed changes shouldn't be random, but coinciding with demands of the software running at any given moment.
