ASUS to add 160Gb HDD in March!

New report over at Digi Times suggests that the segate 160Gb hdd will make an appearance in ASUS and ACER notebooks from as early as March.

Who needs a 160 gb hd? Most people will be fine with a 40 gb hd. I just dont understand why companies do this. I would rather have a 40gb hd and put the money towards a faster processor or a better video card etc.

 

I do. I use a laptop as my main computer, and I am sure a lot of other people do as well, so the more storage space the better. if they bring out a 200GB 2.5in Drive, I would want that in my laptop as well. Glad to see Ausu are one of the first to use the new seagate drives,

 

You may not need one. But I certainly would welcome it. I can never have enough. Not only that, since it's based on perpendicular technology, the performance reported on a few websites have shown it to be close to a 7200rpm HDD.

Even if you do not need the extra space, I'm sure you would welcome the increase in performance which it has to offer, which, in your case would also mean a faster and more responsive computer.

i believe that different user will have a different purpose. For me, i will use 60 or 80GB for internal and Windows, applications, whereas 160 or bigger will be used as external hard drive, then it works as a mobile 2.5 hard drive for data storage.

 

I have a 80GB in my Z81sp (that I have had for 2 weeks) right now and it's almost 1/2 full from lots of video editing that I have been doing on it which reminds me I need to go out a purchase some blank Dual layer DVD's

I am thinking in about 6 to 9 months, I will need to be upgrading my Hard drive to at least 200GB to suit all of me needs

Who wants to carry around extra cables, and exteral hdd, I personally cant wait for the extra space... I have a serious music addiction, and have just got a video ipod, so I am in the process of converting my dvd collection into ipod format. This requires alot of hdd space. 160Gb is small fry. I want 300Gb+
Then I can ditch my externals....or at least only use them as clones, rather than relying on them for constant data storage.

If you guys don't already know, this is breakthrough techonlogy.
I was talking with Seagate about this drive and got to meet the daughter [also in Seagate, but Marketing] of one of the Engineers developing this.
