    ASUS have just won the order for over 1million new ibooks. These will be 13.3" models, Im guessing the upcoming W7 may have helped/be insipired by the new ibooks perhaps.
    Interestingly despite rumours of ibooks being released from as early as Feb06, this report suggests that they wont be released until June....just as Jobs had originally said apple would switch!

    Correct me if I'm wrong but Apple now plans to use Intel chips in their notebooks and they will soon support Windows as well? What will be the advantage of owning an Apple laptop then?

    Apple already uses intel chips in the macbook pro it has since its been released. and they will release a new intel mac mini. and you cannot run windows on an apple. Not without extensive hacking. it can be done but not by the average person. part becuase the macbook pro doesnt have a bios but uses EFI. but soon apple might have native support for windows apps without emulation. but thats speculation. we will see i guess.

    It has been hacked, but it's a fairly involved process, and not everything is working properly yet, unless things have changed in the last little while. Check out this page for details.
    Like I say, I considered a MacBook Pro but their heat issues and the fact that it's a Mac (expensive, no software) kinda pushed me away. I'm sure someone will break OS-X to run on non-Mac hardware sometime soon too. Someone just has to offer a prize.

    I wasnt taking about hacking, I read some where a while ago that Apple/Microsoft? them selves were planning to release a version of Windows for Macs computers/laptops.

    I second that, I enjoy looking at their designs and style, but I can't bring myself to buy Apple stuff either. I think it's because of a personal feeling of satisfaction from not being part of the elitist crew (not to say that all mac users are...), don't know if that makes sense. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing how the new design looks, should be sweet.

    That would be Microsoft's ideal... eliminating a competing operating system. I've also heard rumors that Microsoft is going to buy Apple. What a shame that would be for the elitists.

    microsoft has no reason to change its OS to natively support the macbook pro. what you probably read is the rumors that apple will compete and release OSX for all intel boxes. which probably wont happen either. Personaly i dont need OSX i run windows and linux thats all i need. But if the rumors of apple going to natively support windows apps without emulation come true. Thats going to be a whole different ball game. And people for the first time will really have a choice with the OS it could end up hurting microsoft. Of push them to make more stable products. But its hard conicdering Windows supports so much more hardware. If they released a version of OSX that ran on all intel boxes they would have all the same issues windows has with security bad drivers. crashes etc...

    <completely off-topic for this forum, but I'm curious>
    How well does the Rosetta environment work? Most of the Mac programs are still in PowerPC native code, with Rosetta emulating the PowerPC on the x86 architecture, if I understand correctly, and this leads to a significant drop in performance. Have you used it extensively, and can you comment on this?

    I have never used the macbook. But from what i read some things run pretty poorly. but thats pretty much the case any time emulation is used. some things still dont run at all but im not sure if thats fixed yet.

    There really isn't that much to imagine - it's just a regular Core Duo, after all...
