While not strickly anything to do with notebooks, I did find it interesting to see ASUS release a desktop screen. This obviously signals ASUS's intent on increasing its name in the area of screen technology. This can hopefully thru a flow on effect only mean good things for ASUS notebooks. I firmly believe that the screen is the most important aspect to a notebook, lets face it, the notebook wouldnt be much use without one!

ASUS had several TFT's as far as I know. :)

Well it's nice that it's widescreen, but i think the speakers are a no-go.

Yeah, I think it's great also, especially with the "zero bright dot" policy. I know a lot of people who are scared to buy LCD's because risk of a messed up pixel or pixels and have to be stuck with it.

Saw that one at CES and right now it's set for sometime in Q2....... we currently have their 17" models and they are really really nice screens at a fair price........ I've waiting for this 19" panel and they also have a 32" that's on the way in Q2 as well...

isnt the new 19in WXGA? thats what i saw on engadget. which seems way to low for a 19in.

Yep, WXGA. I hear it's got stereo speakers, 1400 by 900 (WXGA) at 90 pixels per inch, 5 preset modes using a hotkey, & 24-pin DVI-D digital input...but it could be updated.

.. there's nothing to "hear" about it's speakers..... if you could find some better pictures from CES, you'll see the speakers on the side..... they're built behind the bezel (like a notebook would be), rather than just attached to the side.....

Yeah, I'm not too fond of LCD speakers myself. I would definitely use external, but it's good to have. But then again, if it was to lower the size of the frame, I could definitely live without it.

right... i've got a nice 23" sony and for a 23" a 1/2" bezel is really nice........ anyone looking at a highend monitor is going to want highend speakers as well... which is why I know this 19" is really just for a highend office desk type setting......

On the other hand.... the 32" is going to be hot... they've been working on this screen for more than a year!

..yeah, well even the model they had at CES was pre-production.... looks good in pictures, but not all buttoned yet..... but for the price of $400 euros.. that's still under $500 USD........ so that's CHEAP for a 19" widescreen... a higher res should be in the pipeline at a higher cost.

Wait...I thought all LCDs had a select few ODMs like notebooks do - is ASUS part of this crowd, or are they venturing into OEM territory here?

Just Got an asus 17" display model. Pretty nice. From what i see it has almost no black anomalies, no dead pixel, abnormal pixel guarantee, and an 8ms responce time. Only complaint is it has speakers and a very blue led which is in your face in the dark. Their abnormal pixel policy is the first on the market for desktop lcd as i know :)

No.... Asus uses Samsung and a couple others... I'm not sure who's panel the 32" is but I'm sure it's going to be killer........... it's made for the media center systems.....

Eddie - you should have picked up the PM model....... 3ms responce time and only $30 more.... it was probably the nicest monitors to game on that I've ever used......

The 17" w/ 3ms response time is $330...... no word on the 19" other than what's been posted by these new sites which state about $475 for the one the thread was about... I don't have word on the 32" at all...... but when it comes down to something like that..... it'll be almost as expensive as their notebooks...... but if it's better than a samsung or sony home theater lcd.... I'll certainly be raving about it..

17" w/ 3ms response? Oh man, I wish I hadn't read that. I was all set to order my V6Va...but now I'm thinking I might get a z70va instead and get that monitor too :)

... you're off your rocker! A 17" desktop LCD is going to look the same as a 15" (ie: V6).... I've come up with a little formula I use since I have all these laptops and all these desktop screens..... and I've found due to the distance you use the laptop verses the desktop screen........ basically a smaller notebook screen can feel and appear the same as a large desktop screen.... below are some that I've tested a lot and feel really seem this way.

    Laptop / Desktop
    14" ~ 15"
    15" ~ 17"
    17" ~ 23"

I agree with you on that one Justin, but only widescreen laptop screens.

my Z70Va's screen is pretty much the same size, or feels like the same size, as my desktop 17" CRT LG monitor.

Sometimes it seems larger because of the high res' of the laptop lcd. More real estate, I love it.

Any reviews out there for the 19" screen you mentioned? Probably not since it's not out yet.

Justin please keep us updated on this product, I'm very interested. Only thing is I don't trust the manufacturer's stated response times, I want to read reviews from consumers and reviewers. :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

Right... well a 17" CRT is really only 16" viewable if you're lucky....

The 19" isn't in production yet............. and the 17"s came in and flew out of stock in like a week... Asus is still trying to get more in....

Don't worry............ these other Asus products are really my hobby... you'll hear about them.

    I want a big screen, but I don't knwo if I can shell out for a 19"

    What do you think?

Should I place an order for the 17"?

    *Cough* Projected release date?

I've got some money coming in and I'm really, really, REALLY interested in this screen and don't want to purchase another monitor before this one is released.

If I have to wait over 6 months for this release I'm just going to buy another monitor.

Any word on its release date?

    Spanx :D

OOOOOOOOOOOH MY GOD. That soon eh? WOO HOO~!!!!!

I'm gonna be one of the first to get one of these.

Justin why is the 20" your favorite? Nevermind, I get it.

A little pricey on the 20", but looks to be great. I wonder if I should just save up and get that one. Hrmm.

    What a dilemma.

Oooooooooh jeez, can't wait. If Canadian retailers don't have this I'm going to order one from one of you guys on here.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Do you get it? I mean you did ask a question and claim to answer it in the same post... and I guess you could have deleted the question before posting it....

Basically... the webcam is a cool feature but it's not the selling point, but it's certainly for some people...... I currently use a WUXGA 23" and going to a 19" that's only WXGA is not for me...... I mean even their 17" that we've been selling for the past couple months is SXGA.... so the 20" is WSXGA+ and for a 20" widescreen that's more appropriate. Yes it's going to be more expensive, but for the type of person who's going to want one... they'll probably want the resolution.... WUXGA would be a tad high for this display... so WSXGA+ is very nice.

... One thing about these types of products... I'll have a demo ASAP. Right now there's only one demo 19" in north america... and the 20" isn't even to that stage yet..... but I'll certainly be the first to comment on that 20".. hopefully a demo will be available around the time the 19" retail models arrive.

... but for you... imagine going up in monitor size but down in resolution...... I don't like the Z83v because it's a WXGA+ 17"....... having a WXGA 19" would kill me.
