While i was playing GTA, the sharp police siren was making my game hang awhile. Everytime i move away from the siren, the game returns back to normal, why? And it happens with any high pitched audio/song. I was playing when you're gone by avril lavigne and the same thing happened during the chorus. Anyone help?

I don't get that on mine at all during high-pitched audio. Maybe you have some special effects profile/echo on your SoundMAX control panel (that thing causes us lots of grief at the computer store)?

Failing that, try uninstalling and getting the newest audio drivers.

    Mine says:

    SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
    Driver Provider: AnalogDevices
    Driver Date: 3/13/2006
    Driver Version: 5.10.1.4158
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatability Publ (cut off)

I'm using whatever was on the restore disk, since I had wanted to make sure the system was clean before installing all of the stuff I had that needed M$ activation crap and ghosting it (I actually had to call them to get them to reactivate one of the OEM things since the online system refused to work -_-).

What program were you using to play the music? Does it use DirectX to play instead of the standard sound drivers?

Maybe it's a problem with your DirectX DirectSound drivers? (I'm leaning more towards this since it happens in a game) Run a test with dxdiag (Start, Run, dxdiag).

Are you using any sort of special sound model drivers like EAX (some games install this) or other things which "enhance" the sound on the system or let you tweak the output like an equalizer or a room profile?

Maybe something isn't playing nice and you might need to lower the performance mode?

I get that too. Cheap SoundMAX drivers.

You're using a swap or page file, right?

Here's the info from my DXDIAG (minus irrelevent data like filters and enumeration data ) if you want to look:

If there is no problem in the headphones, strange as it may seem, it might be a problem of electrical interference...

Dammit, i really wonder whether has it got to do with the bios? I havent updated them. Nor do i have updated my audio drivers. If it was really eletrical interference, which hardware component would it be? The HDD?

    Electrical interference:

the analogue signals in the speakers interfere with the digital signals on the mainboard (or components) and mess them up.

It would not be a particular component but interaction between components / bad electro-magnetic shielding.

You could of course update the BIOS and drivers, but I doubt that'd help.
