Hi Guys,
Is it worth it to pay an extra $40 for an increase in performance of 0.2 ghz?![]()
Current price at Excaliber pc:
v2s-b1 (2.4 ghz) $1739
v2s-a1(2.2 ghz) $1699
Besides that difference, the other specs look exactly the same for both computers. Also, I believe Intel recently slashed prices on their chips.
Will I see a noticeable performance difference when playing games such as Bioshock? I'm leaning more into the v2 series as opposed to the G series since it has the best warranty, 3 yrs (2 yr international + 1 additional local).
For those of you who own a v2s-b1 or v2s-a1, how would you rate the screen? Comparable to a VAIO? How about build quality?
How is ASUS service in US? I had my ASUS serviced in Singapore 3 times during 2001 - 2004, and it was an alright experience.
THNX for your help!![]()

I would say the screen looks nice and could hold its own against the vaio regular screens but not the led lit ones. Overall the build quality is good. THe negatives: There is flex in the middle of the screen cover. It tends to get alittle hot....the graphics card is crippled so I don't even know if it could run bioshock....I know it can run cnc3 on medium settings but the the 3d marks aren't that great. I achieved a 37.87sec score on wprime which is pretty good...The v2s looks very very classy and nice....I especially love the touchpad which feels very silky. But if I the u3 had come out earlier I would have purchased that laptop instead. If you are looking for a gaming laptop.purchase the mac book pro or the t1p with quadro.

Hi Jetnis,
Besides gaming, would I notice a difference in 'everyday use' , such as surfing, running multiple programs, etc, btw a 2.2 ghz and 2.4 ghz?
Do you know how the gps works for the U3 series? Is it SIRF III? Does the gps come with software, or do I need to buy it?
My concern with the u3 is that since it's so thin, it's possible the notebook will have severe heating problems. Also, the screen is a little small and there's no dvd-rw drive.
PS. What does flex mean? -
No you would not notice any difference between 2.2 and 2.4. Not even in games, most of them are not stressing the CPU to full, rather the GPU.
If you're concerned about heat, I would definitely suggest to go for the slower CPU. -
Two games so far will stretch your CPU according to gamespot's game guides and those two are Supreme Commander and World in Conflict. If you think the extra $40 will give you slightly better performance then by all means.

Chassis flex is when the chassis of the notebook bends visibly under stress, such as when you pick it up from one corner.
LCD backcover flex is deformation of the LCD cover when pushed from behind by objects such as things in a bag, and if significant can be dangerous to the sensitive LCD electronics. -
THNX guys!

you will not notice a difference however the v1s-a1 is discontinued for over a month now replaced by asus v1s-b1. the main difference like you mentioned is the cpu. another difference is about 2 months less shelf life. also some vendors run very nice promos on the v1s-b1 and dont even offer the old one
ASUS v2 series 2.4 ghz vs. 2.2 ghz?
