i want to buy this laptop but i'm wondering how much of a difference will it make if i get the Q9000 vs. QX9300? i wanna play games like crysis, COD5, COD4... should i save up my money and spend the extra 1k on the card? or will the 2ghz quad core suffice?
-
-
The Q9000 would be enough for those games. The $1000 price tag isn't worth the performance difference.
-
I play COD waw with avg of 70fps on high setting.
Also GRID at avg of 50fps..
Get QX9300 when price drops to $300 and under. -

Because this isnt coming straight from a manufacturer ordering from any place with the QX9300 your paying the full price of the processor. So it makes just as much sense to get the laptop and worry about it later.
-
worry about it later, as in upgrade it later?
david - how big of a performance gap are we talking about between these two cards? the 1k doesn't seem worth it to me, but then again, i could easily wait it out if it is a big deal. -
Even with Asus' own TurboGear overclocking software, it's about to overclock to 2.3GHz with a click of a button. -
-
$$$ can do anything.. however not everyone can afford extra $$
-
yeah, but if it makes a huge difference, i will just buy a different laptop for school and then save up money until i can buy the W90PV with the WX9300...
i don't know what to do, i don't wanna spend 2.7k on a computer and then a month later be looking for a replacement... i'd rather spend 3.8k and then look for a replacement a FEW months later. lol.
and nobody answered my other question - can you upgrade the processor? -
You can upgrade the processor yourself, but that will void your manufacture warranty. -

In games 95% of any game is going to perform the same with both CPU, there is only a small % of games that the QX9300 is going to help with.
Of that 5%, 4% of those games will become identical once you overclock the Q9000 leaving you with 1% or less games that you will see a gain from.
Definitly not worth the cost increase.
Your forced to pay nearly $1000 to have a reseller install and insure the cpu, or find one for about $500 online and then void your warrenty.
In both cases its not worth it.
Use the Q9000 now, and when your warrenty period is over and the upgrade is cheaper, then you can upgrade if you so desire.
the QX9300 is not doing much better than the Q9000 in SetFSB due to voltage limitations and also with any FSB type overclocking your ram or motherboard can also become limitations well before you hit the cpu limits.
My Q9000 does 2.7ghz all day long and can go higher but my ram is holding me back from going higher.
Do yourself a favor, save the money for a new laptop in a couple of years it will do more for you than an early upgrade now, or spend it on accessories like a wacom tablet, speakers, headphones, SSD's, games. Things like that which can help you enjoy the W90 more. -
thank you david and vicious, appreciate all the help that has been given.
-
Im with vicious on this one, the extra 1k would be better spent on the next lappie. Right now your going to be able to play most anything with smooth frame rates at high settings if not maxed out just at the stock clocks.
Intel is enjoying excellent yields with these processors and you can expect the price to drop substantially as the next gen chips find there way into laptops not too long down the road. Right now they are milking the ching out of those that just have to have it. Its not a supply/demand issue. -
Just OC Q9000 using setfsb program.. save money..
-
mandoo, can you hook me up with a how-to link with the setfsb program?
it's been ordered from gentech, i don't know how long it'll take for it to process though. i saw on their site it said orders placed in before noon could be sent out that day if the item is instock. i keep checking the page and it says "processing." did anybody order from gentech? how long did it take? -

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
hey guys is there any customization option for w90 (especially the cpu) from a uk site?
if i get it with the T9550 (2.66GHz) as i found it with on uk, how much can it be overclocked with this turbo button?
does the ddr2 ram (even though 6gb) has effects on performance in comparison to ddr3 one? how much score do you get on vista for this? -

> Overclock probably 15% cant say for sure unless somebody has one to test.
> DDR2 vs DDR3 is about the same in performance, more so on notebooks. A desktop using a very high frequency and a high end ram with higher settings can extract more benifit from DDR3.
You cant exchange DDR2 for DDR3 in a laptop it uses a totally different type of slot.
> Dont worry about Vista score, if you do your a sucker. -
So if a laptop has a q9000 it could theoretically be upgraded to a qx9300 at some point down the road?

Hmmm what about the X1s can those upgrade to a quad later on ? ...since there "were" rumor that X1 comes in "Fix" T9600 ...so it can't upgrade to a quad
-
get the a1 if you want a quad, and i'm pretty sure you can upgrade to a quad later on if you have an x1 - although, you will probably void your warranty in the process.

Yeah somebody here has upgraded the x series, Quadzilla infact I think was one of them.
Id probably find a dirt cheap q9000 and overclock it, but if you find a good deal on a Q9100 or QX9300 it can run a bit faster. I just would not spend more than $100 more for one. -
