SO I have been in bed for almost a month after surgery and playing DVDs like crazy. I have had not problems until this one.

I put it in my HP DVD player and that recognizes it; I put another DVD I played before in the ASUS and the ASUS recognizes that one.

So anyone have any ideas as to why the ASUS won't recognize this one? All I get is a message that there is no disc in the DVD drive.

I have cleaned the DVD to make sure that is not the problem.

What kind of DVD is it Justitia? Something from blockbuster or something someone else burned for you?

Remember some optical devices just don't like certain media types, so it may be that your Z70Va just doesn't like that disc.

Try copying it to a different DVD and then give it a go.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Hey, Mike.... my shining knight on a white horse... :) You are always there for me....

It was from Blockbuster's. It was the 3rd disc of the 6th season of Sex and the City (great, great! series). All the other discs they sent played without a problem on the ASUS and I went through all of season 4, 5 & 6. This was the last one, the Bonus disc.

It looked just as authentic a copy as the rest...same imprint and design on the non-playing side. And it played fine on my HP (but of course it did not look as good, as the HP does not have as nice a screen as the ASUS... :D )

does it have a lot of scratches on it? some dvd players are more sensitive to scratched up discs than other players.

I checked for that too... but no scratches. It was a replacement disc as the wrong disc was in the sleeve in the first one they sent. Maybe they burned it themselves and made a very good copy... but one the ASUS didn't like. One of the FAQ's on Blockbuster's list is: Disc won't play/not recognized on my player. So it sounds like it is not that uncommon a problem. It is just weird that every other disc in the series had no problem.... But I don't know they were all from the same set.
