    Hi there!
My new Z71V makes some high pitched noise (like whining)when works from the battery. It disapperas for a second or so when I do something (not sure what). If I switch to minimal power saving this noise disappears. It comes from left upper corner. Any ideas where it comes from and what to do?

    Thanks!
    Dennys.

    Thanks for reply ProPortable!
But it's not the fan. Fan is on the right part of it. And noise is not mechanical. It sounds like camera flash charging noise. But quieter.

Thats easy...... it's the fan. When you put the power saving mode on, you lower the cpu speeds.... which will lower the fan speed.

Basically.... you have a GPU fan directly in the center at the top...... you have the CPU fan at the top right...... this is looking at the laptop while using it.. In that same position, the only think to the top left is the wifi card... and that's not going buzz.

    Thanks,
    Justin

well.... ok.. like I said.. in that corner there is really only one thing.... well two... the wifi card.. and then under that is the modem.....

um.... is it coming from the upper part of that corner? Because just down from that is where the optical bay sits and obviously that can be making noise..... but I would think you'd know it if that was the case.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Speaking of fan, these fans are pretty small. If they were to ever die, where the heck can one find a replacement.

I hate to ship my laptop back to proportable for little things I could fix here (save me shipping cost hehehe).

if they ever die, i think it'll be out of warranty by that period... these fans tend to last a while..... but Asus will always have them and therefore, we'll always have them for you.

    Thanks,

Is this whining noise a common thing in the Z71V?
