Hey guys,
I was browsing engadget.com's article on EEE and an user posted the results for ASUS's Better Business Bureau reliability report. I thought it was quite interesting. Seems like quite a few ppl were unhappy with ASUS.![]()
Especially the warranty / servicing aspect.
I've only experienced ASUS warranty repairs in Singapore and that went okay. How was your US warranty repair experience?
What do you guys think about the BBB's rating?
-
well Asus' service for me, so far, has been pretty good, and more then what they promised I might add, mind linking me to that article?
-
Well, HP has an F, Dell has an F, and I'm pretty sure Acer has an F.
Not all laptops are perfect, but more likely than not, the users had a ID10T error and filed a report. -

Yup, Asus is a big company, unfortunately they do make products that go bad. And the tech forums havent always been the greatest of help.
Check out the BBB report for Asus. http://goldengate.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=99&bbb=1116&firm=16870
Dont know about you but Im not sure I would do business with a company that has so many complaints listed under Warranty, Product Issues, and Customer Service.
Sure, the product you bought was awsome, just hope you never need support or repair."

Reading from the report, everything seemed to be either resolved or administratively closed, and some consumers are being jerks and not reporting back to BBB about the resolutions Asus gave them. And I did have something repiared, after the warranty period was passed, and on top of that, it was free of charge. But I'm guessing it's just the re-seller's willingness to do business with you, and whether they care about future business/what you want, my re-seller has been pretty nice so I'm good

I recently returned a W7J to Asus Canada for a bad optical drive under warranty and the whole service experience was impressively painless and fast. Including overnight shipping from Vancouver to Toronto and back (which Asus Canada arranged free of charge), the repair took 4 days (including a weekend). It was one of the best warranty service experiences I've had for electronic equipment, so I wouldn't place a whole lot of merit on the BBB report.

... Now it's fine after sending it back to them at no charge!
*ALSO* Remember that for some reason a lot of Engadget readers have grudges against Chinese Companies EVEN THOUGH they are the ones making their freaking electronic things...! For example, whenever a Chinese "rip-off" PMP is posted, well just read the comments to understand. I was really disgusted especially when these morons completely blasted Meizu for being just another Chinese iPod Rip-off Manufacturer... How mature these idiots. So, my point being that you should NEVER trust any of the Engadget Readers for half of them are idiots in their own rights. -
My brother had an older W3, don't know which one, had x650? graphics, anyways he fried the USB on the MB (his fault using wrong ac adapter for external usb hub) and contacted asus, they decided it would cost too much to fix and they shipped him a brand new W3J, free of charge, exact same one that I got almost 2 years after he bought his. I think he's glad he purchased the extended factory warranty.
I don't know about you but I call that good service. -
Hope your brother didn't fry the new computer!
-
That seems kind of odd.
When I bought my first Asus last December, I researched here (big help), Better Business Bureau, and several other forums. Never having heard of Asus at the time, I was concerned. There were no real complaints that I recall on BBB (you just have to consider some of them will be just disgruntled people), and the feedback about Asus on the computer forums was all very positive for service, repairs, and quality. -
Hey guys, this is my first purchase with Asus and as you all probably know about the deal with the F3S series notebooks (geforce 8600m GS 256 DDR2) being greatly under clocked because of the use of DDR2 instead of GDDR3.
I've always loved ASUS for their high performance Motherboards/Graphic Cards but i've been very disappointed with what they did to our "F3S series" notebooks.
I bought this "F3Sv-X1 notebook" after lots of research, just like others; only to find after i received the beautiful laptop that the "Geforce 8600m GS 256 Vram 256"they advertise at the time of purchase was not what everyone expected but on the other hand, it was a very under-clocked card that now stands next to a "Geforce 8400m", basically.
Now alot of you may "flame me" because i'm positive there are thousands of you that never had one problem with Asus, but if you think about this issue wouldn't you reconsider ASUS as a trustworthy company?
In my case, i started a community website to gather as many "F3S Series notebook" users to join and sign a petition as well as file complaints about this issue, we would truely like for this to be fixed.
One way or another, i paid for a 8600gs not anything lower, i deserve what i paid for and i don't want to just sit here and let asus do the same to others.
If you own a F3S Series join in, http://asusf3s.3dsbeginners.com -
and you really cant blame asus for your mistakes or misunderstandings..when i first bought my G1s, 8600m GDDR3 was top of the line, but ofcourse i accepted the fact that technology is growing..something maybe the the best for one day, might not be the best the next..
so your petition should be going towards bestbuy then asus..the x1 series were (mostlikely) made for the request of bestbuy, since most of the laptops they sold are under 2k..until they imported the 8700m Toshibas -
Hey,
I don't know where u got the idea that i bought my x1 from bestbuy lol.. I don't even think they sell Asus? Anyways the thing is, thats not the point. I bought it because of the "geforce 8600m gs vram 256" and reading nvidia's detailed "geforce 8600m gs" specs, what i see are clockspeeds of 700/600 not what i received 500/400. I don't find it a fair deal to pay "$1300 bucks" to Asus and receive what seems to be a very high performing vid card vid card; but wait! Asus forgot to tell its customers that they had to underclock their cards from 700/600 to 500/400 because they used DDR2 instead of nvidia recommendatins (gddr3).
I have nothing to do with ASUS nor Nivida, i paid them money for what they advertise, now if u advertise an "Intel 2.0ghz core 2 duo" i want to receive "2.0ghz core 2 duo" not something like "1.6ghz core 2 duo" because "oh sorry we had to change it to 1.6, our motherboard was unable to handle to cpu specs.
Thats an example, in my case and in many other "F3S series buyers" case, we paid for "Geforce 8600M GS vram 256 or should i say Geforce 8600M GS DDR2 256" video card and we received just that only performing at 500/400 speeds NOT what it was meant to perform at "600/700".
I think Asus cheated its customers, and i don't find it that its fair for us to have to just stay with the laptop. They should fix them all. -

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=Asus&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1179877029623
and like Lithus said..GDDR3 are like exotics..you pay the cheaper price, you get the cheaper product, i'm sure the a1s come with the specs of the one on the nvidia site, and I doubt that the one listed on the site is GDDR3
And I'm SURE that the advertisements for the a1s..if you paid the higher price, or actually..regular price, you would've gotten the better product.. -
oK you kinda confused me a bit lol..
My notebook is the "Asus F3Sv-x1" and it cost me $1,300 from newegg.com. Newegg specifies "Geforce 8600M GS vram 256". and nvidia says http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600M.html
Your right, nvidia doesnt show "gddr3" but the thing is. Why would Asus do this and sell us all the "geforce 8600m gs" but instead of performing at its capacity, they lower it without telling us.
I kinda understand what your talking about but still, it upsets me that i paid thinking i was actually receiving a "8600m gs" , u know?
They lowered the clocks so low that its not even close to the performance of the actual "8600gs" like on other laptops.
I'm just sad man lol... I want this lappy to perform at top performance, but the card is kinda just sitting there taking everything i give him at 50% of its actual performance lol.
-
i guess good luck in contacting newegg..and hope your next choice is filled with questions -
Your kinda right though, that G1S is gorgeous
very nice laptop!
Not sure if i will contact them,i don't have the extra 400 bucks atm so im stuck with this one. And I'm really not too disappointed, i just wanted my ge-force 8600m gs to perform at 600/700 not 500/400 lol.
Besides the video card issue, i love the laptop. -
you out to get one..
i see one guy in b/s/t selling a brand new open box for 1,500 which is like 700 less then i bought mine
Link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=184415
just buy like a $20 cooling fan -
3dmark 06 stock results 500/400: 2342
3dmark with overclocked vidcard 590/550: 2936
thats basically highest number i got with stock drivers from Asus... Hehe lol basically the same thing with drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. -
-
i will give it a shot, but im loosing hope and now looking at the G1S makes me want to cry!!!!! looks soo beautiful but w/e lol i got this one and i cant say i hate cuz i got 3gb of ram in it and i play my games on high graphics (except for oblivion and crysis
) lol but you know, i want top quality so i get upset thinking its not working how its suppose to.
I don't think it will be possible to make this go over "2900 3dmark 06 points" without crashing, btw note that im using a cooling pad , so the bottom of my lappy is always cool.
thanks for your help man, appreciate it -
Hmm lol i should try something, call Asus and be very upset with them because i received underclocked system and that i want to replace it for free for a G1S LMAO..
-
haha no problem, i'm willing to offer to help in anyway i can, that's why i joined this forum
-
I'm seriously going to call them tomorrow see if it works
i will let u know lol again, thanks!.
