According to this report over at digi-times, built on ASUS notebooks will now be called "ASmobile"
"Asustek will release its first ASmobile-branded product in the fourth quarter of 2006, the sources said. The company internally projects that shipments of ASmobile-branded notebooks will amount to 100,000-200,000 units in 2006, and the output will grow in 2007"a

Man.. I don't think they thought about that name clearly enough though.... shouldn't they do something like a word connotation check before releasing products?
Sounds like... "A$$ - mobile" to me -
haha, yeah true. must be some kind of tounge and cheak
Insane -
ASS mobile?......ASS mobile? What are they thinking?.....ASS MOBILE?!?!!? lol
@insane..lmao!! -
hi,
cannot say no to that, it sounds a little... inapropriate (; but i guess what they meant was A S mobile;
still quite funny (;
greetings, -
i dont want a laptop branded ASMobile...
-
I was reading a magazine and saw an ASUS ad for the W5f, W3j and W2v, and I said 'cool'. The next page was for the Z35f, Z62j, Z96j and it stated ASMobile, which made me giggle a bit
-
Seriously.. what's wrong with these large corporation not making sure there aren't weird "hidden" meanings/connotations behind their slogans or logos... I don't think it's acceptable at all... especially large global corporations like ASUS..
I do freelance translating/interpreting, and lots of times when major corporations want to release something, they make sure the words are carefully checked in multiple languages before anything.... I think that's the smart thing to do instead of something like ASmobile happening... -
ill have to get a separate ASUS logo made for my next mobile cos ASMobile simply wont do...unless i start working in the porn industry
-
So...I don't get it... will all lines of ASUS notebooks be re-branded or just the Zxxx ones??
-
ROFLMAO!!!
Ass mobile laptops...priceless!! -
This is what ASUS wants to do. One 'ASUS' line, and one generic barebones line that are given to dealers, such as MileStonePC, PowerNotebooks, etc. and have them figure everything out.
The ASUS line is the ENSEMBLE line, and the generic barebone line is the ASMobile line. -
LOL, looks like almost everyone is on the same page. When I first read that I too though, "eh? what? Ass-mobile?" when you say it fast. Wondering how much they spend on that logo...can't be as bad as my provincial gov't new logo...
-
@mythless: what province?
And this might be the demise of Asus. Think about it:
"Son, what kind of laptop do you want?"
"AsMobile"
"Ass mobile? For the love of..."
Brand recognition already isn't that good. At least "Asus" invokes curiosity. "AsMobile" invokes WRATH. -
A-S-Mobile, Probrably not pronounced as 'as'. Such as ASRock, which was ASUS's affordable line of motherboards/etc. and it did pretty well, and it's probrbaly 'Eh-Ess'-'Rock' and not 'AS'-'Rock'.....
FTW?!?! -
This is almost as funny as Pho King restaurant!
-
Don't mess with Pho - I love eating that
-
Its just like the laptop brand AVERTECH, the first thing that comes to my mind is AVERAGE.
ASSMOBILE, the first thing that comes to my mid......... is well lets just say I wouldnt want to own one, and deffinately wouldn't want to whip it out in public!
That reminds me, I was flying from the UK to US a few weeks ago and the stewardess name was IOWANA, every time she walked past I wanted to ask her if her last name was HUMPALOT...... -
I just read the name change today and my first reaction was what the? Since we all agree the name seems or should I say IS out of place, I hope that Asus will take note and discretly change the name to something else. I'm having enough problems with Asus on it's own
Some friends of mine tease me and call my laptop "Ass-us". Imagine what people would say with ASMobile.
So I hope they will notice the wording and change it. -
hehe ASmobile, its a phone! haha. yea, i can imagine the people at support with an accent saying ass mobile.
-
How bout the story about experts-exchange.com when they started..... they didn't use the "dash" in between experts and exchange.... guess what kinds of issues they were getting -
Geared2play.com Company Representative
I may be the only one that dont belive the article there. Doubt it will ever happen but anyone who dont want this probably should bombard asus sales with links to this thread.
-
ha ha as a Landscape Architect the funny one I saw was mole station nursery, although this link has now been redirected to a new name, I mean how could you not see that one comming.
Well if it does happen, I wonder is Asmobile will notice the drop in sales from english speaking countries, but even if they do they probably wouldnt associate the drop in sales to the name change... otherwise they wouldnt change it to that in the first place.

Its funny I didnt even realise the ASSmobile tag when I posted the story, guess im not as much of a gutter brain as I'd hoped....damm

@rwei: Manitoba...prov gov't spend 2mil (that's right 2 million(+)) for our "spirited energy" logo...
lol, I can see people with acents in customer service saying this, not properly though. If they do come with this logo, I might be tempted to phone in...lol just to hear them say it, that's if they do. -

Asus has been known for their quality products...not their marketing genius. -
I think it's a Taiwanese thing. Subtle language isn't taught in classrooms. They probably don't see the connection between ASmobile and A S S mobile that everyone in America will. To them, ASmobile probably seems like AsusMobile.

"ASmobile Communication Inc. is a subsidiary company of ASUSTek Computer Inc. ASmobile is a professional OEM/ODM communication devices company and dedicate to design and manufacture GSM/GRPS mobile devices as well as EDGE solutions."
Assmobile
But I presume those gsm/grps phones are not branded ASmobile because those are OEM/ODM products. Asustek own phones are branded Asus.
Here is Asmobile (OEM/ODM communication devices company) logo perhaps Asustek barebone notebooks will have the same logo.
