Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum so I'm sorry if there is already a thread about this.
I recently bought ASUS F3Ka laptop and found out, that my radeon hd2600 is shown as having 1237mb ram total. It already has 512mb ram dedicated so that HM is just a gimmick. Does any body know if there is a way to turn HM off, coz I can't find it, even in bios.
On the other hand, does Hyper Memory take ram only when its needed by graphics card, or does it just take the portion of ram and doesn't even allow windows to use it in normal tasks. I am asking this, because task manager shows physical memory as 2046ram total and after restart ~1450ram free. (I have 2gb of ram)
    Thanks in advance

Hypermemory does NOT take ram from your system until your dedicated video memory is eaten up, and with just a mid range card, that won't happen.

No, you also can not turn it off. There is a way, but it involves editing the registry where the ATI files are, and even then, you have to remove Vista's version of the video memory/ system memory sharing, which I believe is unknown at this point.

But, even when you do actually get it disabled, it wont run any better, infact, just worse. On XP PRO on an X1600 laptop, I disabled HM and got a 3FPS drop in everything..

Btw, Vista it's self usually eats up over 500MB of your ram right at start up, and other things like your cd drives, hard drives, PCI/PCIe slots all take a portion of your ram to run them, which is automatically deducted from your available ram when you boot your pc.

    That's right

HM and Turbocache (other than on integrated cards) are a new feature of DX10. What is shows it the maximum available ram, it will only use it if needed AND if the system does not need it.

First of all, thanks everyone for your help. Now i have one headache less :)
And sodina, I bought it in a local shop here in Lithuania. I was pretty amazed that they caried it, because I too couldn,t find it anywhere on the internet. So good luck searching, you will eventually find it.
