OK i've come to a conclusion after installing everything from factory, my pc , a8jp , works fine. The fan controls are perfect and i don't even have to use NHC or any other third party software to control the fan. It show to have three speeds.. off / medium / high.
Now the issue that i have been having is since i installed SP1 for vista. The ATK0100 driver which is the version ending at .100 , can't control the fan past medium speed even when the cpu goes over 75C ... eventually overheating. By installing NHC the and using their ACPI control i can manage to get the fan to go on high after 75C.
To me, asus gotta do something about this so that they don't let us hang... My last test is.. Windows VISTA without SP1. Ubuntu 32 and 64 doesnt overheat whatsoever so doesn't solaris 10.
This is so annoying as i dont want to use NHC ,because when it does a good job with the fan it screws my LCD by dimming it... i tried everything it s just buggy.
Can other A8 series owner that have WIN VISTA SP1 verify their ATK0100 driver version under system devices ? ... How about people with A8 series that came with vista installed ? did your pc come with sp1 or no ? if yes can you share your driver for a test drive in my machine ? TIA for everything !![]()

a) I'm not sure that the fan is controlled only by ATK drivers. It is most likely a combination of the ATK drivers and the BIOS; it may even be just the BIOS.
So, did you update your BIOS recently? If so perhaps you should go back to the previous version. If not, you could try updating to the most recent version (if newer than what you have).
b) Are you sure that while installing SP1 Vista didn't replace the ASUS ATK driver with a generic, Microsoft driver? I would try uninstalling the current ATK driver and utils, downloading the latest ATK driver & utils for your model from ASUS support, and installing them.
And yes, NHC hasn't been updated in quite a long while so it's buggy, I'd recommend an alternative solution if one exists. -
A) yes the bios has been updated since when it first came out the latest version. You are correct sir... part of it seems to be the bios because i noticed the following : when the computer overheats , and i shut it down , as i try to turn it on as soon as it's operable , the fan will kick in the highest as the asus logo shows. so the bios has control of the fan also. When inside vista sp1, sometimes the fan would not kick in the highest , somewhere when temp reaches 75C. I also had the same problem with the fan not kicking in to higher rpms when resuming from standby mode.
But as we speak now i had vista reinstalled from scratch again without sp1... and guess what ? it's working normally ! the core temps wont pass 78C - 80C when using prime after 5 hours. The drivers i got from asus website except the ati , which i hacked using mobility modder.
What i'm going to try to do it.. a ghost image of what i have now download sp1 and install it to see what happens... Before i tried to install vista with sp1 in the dvd and not vista + sp1 download.
