Well the main problem i noticed only a few weeks ago, was oddly that my Graphics Card's GPU and Memory speed were way up at thier Max when on battery. Naturally i went on the CCC (Catalyst Control Centre) to see what the issue was, what i found was strange, my PowerPlay settings had been set to Optimal Battery (low core speeds) yet the CCC hadn't lowered them it had just kept them on full.
Thinking it was a problem with the driver i uninstalled the new one and installed the one that came with the notebook. This fixed the issue for a few days and today, once again, i noticed a drop in battery life and once again the cores were at max even though they should be set at low.
It is almost like the CCC doesn't reconise that it is running on battery.
Here is a screenshot to explain, any advice or help is greatly appreciated

I've seen this with my x1700 so you're not alone. There were a few versions that sort of worked but I haven't had much luck. On the V1Jp it the power consumption goes down by around 2W (from what I can remember) when the Optimal Battery setting worked. If you find a driver that works let me know.

well thats the thing, they originally worked fine for months, then this just started happening. I have re-installed the CCC again and it is once again fine, but i cant go on re-installing constantly can i..

Have you tried to use a driver cleaner before any of those reinstalls? Also you might want to check your ATI folder even after uninstalling and then reinstalling the driver. If you have tried several versions of the driver, there might be several folders in the ATI folder (each one pertaining to a different driver). Delete those folders and try reinstalling the driver package.
