Here is interesting story about Asus tech support in action...
http://www.mozillaquest.com/Linux04/Asus_Sucks_Story-01.html#Introduction
This story is about nonexistent open source support, but they are also ignoring problem in MS operating system. I might add that Asus probably is not the only manufacturer who treats open source operating systems like this.
General feeling about Asus's interest towards end user is quite clear. There are also few individuals on this forum who has had similar experiences when trying to get support from Asus. They really don't seem to care or even try to solve problems.
I know what brand I drop from my list when I'm buying my next computer... I think I've turned few potential buyers to other brands when I told them my experiences with Asus. I think that bad behaviour and poorly desinged products should be somehow paid back... [}] Maybe they some day change their attitude for more consumer friendly direction...

I've had better support from Asus (and I even have a "built on" that they are not obligated to support) than I had with Sony or Toshiba. Gateway did pretty well by me.
I think you are doing users a diservice by steering them away. Out of curiosity, what did they end up buying?

Problem reported on Anandtech as well:

The only thing we can do is to contact well-known web sites like Tom's hardware or Anandtech, and talk about the problem, providing references to this forum.
I have just reported the problem on Tomshardware community forums:
http://www.community.tomshardware.com/forum/showflat.m?Cat=&Board=con_notebook&Number=477004&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&part=&vc=
Please report the problem there and try to bring attention on the thread. Only post a message there if you have the fan-never-stops problem, not another problem (like overheating etc.)

Hi pstrisik,
Are you working for Asus?
Considered the huge (if not enormous) amount of messages since July'04 about the A2D fan issue and the amount of energy spent to deal with the problem without any help from Asus, it is normal for us to be very angry.
If you are not concerned by this problem and/or are not an A2D owner, please stay out of this discussion. Remember we're not here for fun, just to increase our chances to have the problem fixed.

Since the topic is about "asus's techincal support attitude", not the A2D issue... then I'm gonna have to side with pstrisik....and no I don't work for asus either. I personally have had pretty good experience with ASUS support, they have fixed my notebook twice now within two days (replaced m/b), I have never heard of any other company doing it as quick or quicker (although I was *$#@$&$ that it needed to be fixed in the first place). I will agree that contacting ASUS by email is a bad idea and that there service stinks but that is/was/has always will be that way. It really depends on how good the ASUS service centers are in your particular part of the world. I'm lucky in my home town they seem on the ball and willing to help. What is needed for the end user wanting to buy and ASUS is correct information..like don't buy and A2D because...rather than don't buy and ASUS. Also I'm from ..... and the service is crap or great here. Like I've always said, that is much more useful information for new buyers, rather than blanket hate post. Also try and put in context of other manf. take Dell for instance who has some real horror stories regarding tech service.
In closing and before you two guys jump down my throat...no I'm not saying ASUS is the best out there or that your lying about your bad experiance....just the opposite.. its great (perhaps not the correct word) that your able to report your problems so that others don't suffer the same fate, just that I think specific's are more helpful rather than wide sweaping statements. I love my M6Ne (now its fixed) and my wifes M2N has been solid as a rock which is amazing for any form of pc.
But due to all the great user feedback on this forum I will never get an A2D or suggest on to a friend.

ps escape please don't discourage people from posting espically when they have valid info.

forums are here for people to voice their opinions... this is not an A2D post anyway.
ASUS is amongst the top manufacturers in the world for a reason... and that reason is the fact that they make GOOD computer products; however, even good manufacturers slip up and have faults... no one is perfect.
Hating ASUS won't do anyone any good...

Fair enough, I mistakenly made the link between the A2D fan issue and Hyde since he started this thread.
Asus technical support has been really bad down here in Auckland. I had largely inexperienced people on the phone, not wanting to hear anything about the real, genuine fan issue.
The technical support going through the Asus member web site is also very poor as mentionned several times in this forum. You've got a fan problem, and they tell you to reinstall the VGA driver... come on. Search for "Linus Lin" in this forum, seriously this guy is number one for pointless answers.
