    About W3J's Asus International Warranty

    will i be voiding the Asus International Warranty of my W3J if i am going to upgrade its RAM? if no, what uppgrades will be voiding my warranty and which are not?

    about this warranty.. if something happens to my notebook, what are the requirements for asus to get it? for example, do i still need the proof of purchase of the asus reseller, a receipt, etc...??

    Upgrading the RAM does not void the warranty, either does upgrading the harddrive. Changing the processor will void the warranty. I am not sure about the proof of purchase, but for most warranty repairs and troubleshooting they ask you to register your computer's S/N number and that's about it. Hope this was helpful.

    I was under the impression chaning the Hard drive would invalidate the warranty, however may be wrong.

    Re what you need to supply re warranty repairs (in the UK, anyway) is the model serial number and a photocopy of proof of purchase (i.e. receipt).

    Changing the Hard drive does indeed void the Asus warranty, as far as I know. I know I wanted to get one, but to upgrade the hard drive, you have to buy customized, with dealer warranty. Maybe its different there.

    Can't see upgrading the memory on any notebook would void their manufacturer's warranty. If it does, I'd still upgrade the memory and take it out if I have to send it back for warranty repairs.

    I believe that the same is true of the hard drive. If you have an issue, put the stock components back in. Responses to this same question have gotten a bit heated before with people saying it's "immoral" or wrong to do so but I honestly can't see how. If you don't break any of the seals which indicate the voiding of the warranty, I can't see having an issue.

    You're right and wrong here.... Physically changing anything *could* void your warranty, but it's unlikely to. The only concern is that you have the original manufacturers parts to replace them. If you just add a stick of ram, it's not a big deal because you can take it out. However, if you replace what's in there, you need to then put that back, so you need to have it stored somewhere. This is mainly why if changing the hard drive or buying a new one from the start, it's a good idea to use the original as say a drive in a 2nd hard drive kit (like on the W3) or to get a usb storage case so you could justify it as some form of storage.

    The CPU is physically the only thing with a warranty sticker on it.... so you don't want to change that out, but for the ram and the hard drive... as long as you put the original parts back, you won't have a problem with the warranty.
