My order for the Core 2 Duo w3j just shipped from MilestonePC (great company). Anyways I know it includes a free case, but wanted to see if anyone who already has theirs can comment on the free case, or if they have pics they can post.

As far as I've seen the Asus-branded case (or carry bag?) for 14" models, it can only hold the laptop itself, its power adapter and perhaps a couple of textbooks. Although this is pure speculation, we´ll have to see what more knowledgeable users have to say.

the free case that comes with the a8js will greatly disapoint you. below k mart quality.
Im not certain that its the same one as the w3j though. -

It's a targus made case - but Asus Design... It's minimalistic... awfully nice actually... I use of the cases like that when I travel with my notebook.... no use in trying to find something better. Best thing, if and when it gets marks on it or falls apart.... it was a free case

is it different than that a8js one?
I mean I just want to be clear youre talking about the one im looking at right now....
Im really trying to like it but um....
hey where is the shoulder strap in the packaging? -
If its the same one that comes with the A8 models, I think the case is quite nice and stylish. Not too big, looks good an seems to be solid. Best thing though, it doesn't look like a laptop bag (i.e advertisment to muggers), but looks like a cool messanger bag.

If we are talking about free stuff included with w3j, can someone tell me something more about the free mouse? Is it made by logitech? What's the quality? Is it wired or wireless??

It's free.... and you already ordered the notebook... are you simply trying to get your fix before it actually comes? I mean, I understand it, I'm just curious why all the questions AFTER you bought it and especially questions like these... No one should be buying a W3 for it's free extras, and if they're junk or great - it's something you'll see for yourself in a couple days.... Just hang in there
I mean, they're free, but in combination, worth about $100+..... The case is what's coming with the A8...... it was originally designed as the "W3 series" case for the W3v last year..... so a lot of W3v owners will know the case I'm talking about.... it's shades of brown and grey and looks more like a professional bookbag than anything else.... easily something you'd pay $50 or more for. The mouse is Asus' Bluetooth Notebook Mouse.... Which is essentially a Logitech V270. A lot of people don't like notebook mice becasue they're smaller, but they're meant for people on the go that still want a mouse. In terms of notebook sized bluetooth mice - it's the best thing on the market and it's worth about $50. -
The free bag that came with my Z63a (same bag as W3v) had a strap that broke/ripped...
So it's not the highest quality bag out there... but hey, it was free and it served me well for several months.
Oh well, I still have my trusty backpack to carry it in. -
I am actually concerned by its basic design because if the front plastic latches were to break or not be fastened the bag could open sideways.
-
I hope it's not that bad. I was pretty sure that Asus will give some crappy wired mouse for free so that is a nice surprise. Thanks Justin for info! -

Well, it's not that it's "bad"..... it's that all notebook mice aren't as good as desktop versions because they're smaller... but that's for portability.

Since we're not talking only w3j...
M6Ne / V6J carrying cases are great in my opinion. They look good, are sturdy and can take a lot of beating without showing it... the M6Ne case has been used for about a year 5 days a week now, and nothing is broken or excessively worn out (a lot of space inside for all sorts of stuff as well). The V6J, close to 9 months / 5 days a week, looks almost as new.
The W3J case should be similar, since it's sort of a business notebook. About the A's, I don't know... I bought a (cheap) A6F and the case looked (well, what would you expect) cheap.
About the Logitech mice: they're perfect for a notebook. I have the wired variant times 2, and I wouldn't exchange it for a bigger one, I got used to it quickly. -

The M6 and V6 cases were different... the V6 was the first to actually have one of these Asus Design cases..... the M6 came with a nice case, but it was very generic.....

[One note I'm talking about Europe]
My M6N case has an ASUS logo and ASUS is etched into the shoulder cushion, if that's what you mean by "Asus Design"
Anyhow, the point is they're top quality. One example: even the inside of the support braces for the strap has the original black color, and those parts are taking the most significant amount of friction (the whole weight of the bag rests in those two points of contact). The surface of the bag is a bit dusty, but if I washed it (which I don't) I'd bet it would look as good as new.

No..... I mean "Asus Design" is a side company within Asus that does the industrial design for the notebooks..(ppc,umpc,tablet); servers; desktop barebones; phones; monitors... etc..... They also do the carrying cases. Starting about 18 months ago with the V6v... the V and W series got "Asus Design" carrying cases........ this year extended that to the S and R series..

Too bad the North American V6j users didn't get a carrying case. Oh well, I have too many already, one more would just complicate my mornings that much more.
About the free case with the w3j.....
