Well, I am about to make a leap and purchase my first laptop. I will be using it for graphic design and some gaming. I will be getting it from newegg with the bag and mouse for $1,414.89 shipped. Any suggestions before I make the full commitment?

Apply for the newegg preferred membership... If you get approved, you will get 6 month payment deferral with no interest for $500-$999 orders, and 12 month payment deferral with no interest for the orders over $999.

I have purchased my F8Va-C1 from newegg with my preferred membership and I do not have to pay a penny till next August...

I'm about to get it as well, but I'm still unsure about it's size. For a gaming laptop, it's a good size right? Not too bulky? I can carry it around?

I really don't wanna get myself stuck with credit. But I heard its a pretty big laptop for a 15.4 inch. But it shouldn't be a problem.

Illway, the laptop is big-- It has a big chassis almost the size of a 17 incher. As wide as 17incher, and about as long as a 15.4 laptop.

The size is still a 15.4 laptop level, so that won't be a problem to move around if you are used to the weight.

Enjoy your new purchase! This laptop is a beast!

Due to the wide nature of this laptop, I really loved the 16:9 format of the X1 screen, I imagine the 16:10 will look a tad bit smaller wide-wise.

Well, if I have to sacrifice weight and size for power, I'll do it. I just don't want it to be an extreme burden...but I'm fine with carrying it around in a backpack.

Anyone here commute with this laptop or the X1? It's not a major hassle, is it?

I'm sold then. As long as I know it's not a major problem.

Plus, the fact that you're able to play it in a cafe without it being HUGE is great too. I can't wait ^_^

Edit - # Oh yes, about the battery life: Is it that horrendous? I know there are options to maximize battery life...do they work that well? I'll get another look at the review while I'm at it.

I couldn't imagine a 7 (ish) pound laptop wouldn't be a problem. I would say just suck it up. lol. I can't wait to order it, even though my parents are reluctant to me buying such an expensive laptop.

Likewise, my father is reluctant as well. I'm splitting the cost halfway with him though. Works for me ><

7 pounds (~3.2kg) shouldnt be an issue, specially in a backpack!

There is no such thing as good batterly life out of a gaming laptop. Battery life issues are just blown out of proportion-- Out of all the gaming sets I have used (most have less than an hour of life) this one on battery saving, or moderate saving lasts around an hour and a half, to even 2 hours on super saving (but looks like crap).

Battery is better than expected, at least for me.

ya.. battery life wont be the best, since it is a gaming computer. But most of the time you will have a power outlet around you. =p

i replied. it was a misunderstanding.

anyway i say go for it. mine hasn't arrived yet (they delayed the shipping yesterday) but it looks very future proof so i'm confident in my decision. however are you willing to wait for another sale? the price has been changing a lot lately and dipped as low as $1199. maybe you can save some money if you wait

Do these all still have the annoying red/orange trim? I'm finding a few different pictures online so I'm curious.

Ya, I would be willing to wait, I have until july (when i start college) I am just afraid that it will rise in cost.
And yes, it still has the orange trim.

battery....i came from a asus c90s whos battery life would be less then 10 minutes lol probably a faulty battery..so for me this laptops battery is great lol..

I always have mine plugged so i really cant say how long it last.. but just surfing or music and basic stuff it should be good...

Now, if you plan to game on battery...no laptop will last.. dont care who makes it lol... plus performance on battery power will be less

btw I have the x1 not the x2 but i belive they should be the same battery life wise (correct me if im wrong)

P.s in the original post... im not sure if newegg ships theyr laptop with bag and mouse.. make sure you call to confirm, i rememebr reading somewhrere that it didnt come with the extras?

No, but there is a combo deal which comes with bag and mouse for a little more. Its worth it in my mind. I think the x2 would take a little more battery. Due to slightly higher specs. But not much more battery drain.

if the mouse is the same as the one that comes with the Vt a1/2 then it's definitely worth it. It's an asus/republic of gamers themed Razer Copperhead, which is a great gaming mouse!

The -X series is highly unlikely to have the same accessories as the premium -A series line.

That's one of the ways (among others) Asus distinguishes the lines and why the -X series is cheaper... Asus drops the included accessories :).
