Hey this is my first ever laptop, and after reading many of the Z33A threads, i've pretty much set my mind to this laptop thanks to all of you. Does anyone have any last opinions before i get it?
Thanks a bunch []

As long as you're getting it for the features it has and as long as they meet your needs... it's a great system.... but you're very vague... if you are a gamer or need a bigger screen.. obviously not the system for you.
Thanks,
Justin

well the main reasons im getting it are:
lightweight
great battery life (using the 9-cell)
no heating problem
has a built in cd combo, unlike w5 i believe

and ill be using it mainly for school, so i probably won't be playing games on it

yea the s5 one is prolly the one i meant

Just for clarification sake:
The Z33a is a 12.1" normal
the W5a is a 12.1" wide
the S5n is a 12.1" normal -
The W5a does have a built-in CDRW/DVDROM combo.
The S5n does not. -

That's correct....... I must have missed that...
Z33 - 12" built in combo
W5a - 12" wide - built in combo
S5a - 12" - external combo
Thanks,
Justin

yea its a bummer that its not widescreen, but its nothing that would change my mind

Yeah, but the color shine screens use more power and with a standard 3 cell, you'd be using even more power.....
Also, Asus doesn't want to use the color shine in any regular ratio screen. Regular ratio screens are typically but for office use and matte displays are preferred for those environments.

if only the Z33 came with a color shine screen... then it would be perfect.

besides the built-in combo drive, a DVD-rewriter drive is also built in to (at least some versions of) the M5.
-
how noisy is the combo drive in the z33a?

have you considered the Z63? It's also a thin and light, weighs a lil more..but it has more power for the buck. It's a 14' widescreen that comes with an optical drive and integrated graphics.

The Z63a is a little more substantial, but in terms of comparisons... you basically have the same size screen height wise... with an extra 2 1/2" inches to the side... it's a lot more screen real estate without really getting much bigger.
I think the sounds coming from all super slim drives will be louder than a regular notebook drive... but I wouldn't call them "loud" ... they just have thinner trays and I think that might cause more vibration while it's spinning.... nothing that's hurting the system, but I think that's where the difference is.
Thanks,
Justin

yea the w3 or z63 was actually the notebook i considered before this, but there was a heating problem with the w3. does it still exist in the z63? because its one of the important factors.

If you think there is a heating problem on the W3, then of course the Z63a will have the same problem as it's the same computer minus the graphics card. I can tell you that the graphics card wasn't causing any issues.
In fact, I met with a forum member today who's actually going to post his opinion about the W5/W3/V6 this evening. I took them a long so he could get a good look at all of them and let all the systems run in high performance mode for about an hour and then let him feel all of the systems for this "heat problem" ... I think he might be able to give a real world perspective on that issue.
To me, it's not an issue and even less of one if you use a Seagate hard drive.. .if you get a custom system you can get just that. I think some more people who have actually used the system in automatic powersaving mode can actually tell you that the system will run even cooler when you don't actually use the system at full blast when you don't need too...... I'll let them comment more about it.
Thanks,
Justin

No, I know what people have said, but if you ask or read what people testing in a real world environment, taking into consideration the size and the power of the system..... it's quite normal.
Like I've said before, no one's taken a thermometer to thing and 90 degrees is going to feel warm to some people, while 110 might be considered cool by someone else.
The heat is ONLY coming from the hard drive and hard drive heat can easily be looked up online from say toms hardware or somewhere else. The drive is going to produce the same heat in any system it's in.
Thanks,
Justin

well i've heard of it from many people on forums. the last laptop that i used with a really bad heat problem was the dell inspiron 600m which really annoyed me. Does anyone know how the heat compares to the z63a
Rixo out! -
ah icic, so u think if i got a seagate 5400prm one, i'd be fine?

I do.. whether it was a Z33 or a Z63.... you shouldn't haven't a problem..... but like I said... let others actually answer this thread.... there's been a lot posted by people who later found out they weren't using the proper powersaving features and things like that.. Most people who have been using their system for a while now (W3v) can comment....... but I know the hitachi's run hotter, but it's not that they actually run "hot", just warmer than the seagates....
Thanks,
Justin
