Does it come in at 5.6 lbs and 6.0 lbs (with optical) in real life? Or are these low-balling it.
Thanks

in real life you need to add power adaptor, bag, mouse and what ever other goodies you take with you so yes these numbers are low, they are for the system only, and that is also optimised....ie travelers draw and usually the lowest capacty battery offered on that model. But ASUS does this because everyone else does this too. Thus it is better suited as a guide to compare for eg say an ACER travelmate 8100, a dell 6000 and ASUS z70v.
For me the actual travelling weight of the M6Ne (older version of the z70v) is closer to 3.5-4kg (asus reported the weight at 2.8kg), but if I had gone with a dell 8600 this would have been more like 4-4.5kg.
Hope this helps a bit.
a
ps I personally find the weight a bit too much for regular traveling with this model, thus if you plan on carring it every day I would consider looking at a more mobile solution....maybe a W3/z63a or M5/W5.

Those weights are pretty accurate....... the only problem is I don't see many people using the travelers drawer. But again, the 5.6 and 6.0 are without a bag, ac, mouse... whatever else.... just the system with the battery in it.
Thanks,
Justin

well i ask because the traveling that this laptop would be making would be from my dorm to my class in my backpack. My backpack has a nice laptop sleeve built in (Northface is really outdoing itself these days) and i would not bring the powerbrick or a mouse to a lecture. So it really is just the flat 6 pounds of the laptop. THe rest of the time it would stay in my dorm / in my backpack.
Also trying to convince myself that i don't need the Go6600 in the z71v, and that the .6 lbs heavier it is would actually be felt. it is a 10% increase in weight anyways.
THe machine I'll be getting, if its a z70v or z71v, will be from you Justin and fully maxed. 2.13 / 2gigs / 7200rpm drive. etc. So I figure an x600 with 2 gigs / 2.13 centrino will play games rather competently for the casual gamer (WoW / online games primarily). -
hey tay, just wanted to add that I too am wondering the same thing with the weight and im going to be using this notebook for the exact thing u are hahaa how funny....cept mine isnt going to be maxxed out as yours =P

You can feel ever 1/2 pound in every one of the laptops....... but without having both, you'll never really know the difference. IF you're going to be backpacking or something...... I really think something like the Z63a might be more appropriate (if you don't want the W3)........ the type of gaming you want to do (WoW / online games) can easily be handled with the newest integrated solution from Intel.......
But in all honesty, if you can live with 6 pounds, the M6 series (Z70) is the best all around system you're going to find..... (Luckily, I guess), I haven't had or found one person that didn't love their M6..... and like I keep saying, they've been out for a year and a half and it's at least Asus' 2nd most popular unit that's been made.
Thanks,
Justin

Mine weighs in at almost exactly six pounds with the DVD-RW drive. It's not difficult to carry at all. The power supply is very small and can't weigh more than a few ounces.
I just submitted my Z70v review to Andrew, so barring any problems, look for it to be posted in a few days. -
Great!
Thanks JB!
Looking forward to it! -
