I know there are countless disscussions and topics about this, but none of them really address what i'm asking (at least what i saw). I want to replace one of the ram sticks(1gb) that came with my laptop with a 2gb stick, this one.

I just want to know, is it easy to install ram into the g1s-a1? if so is there a tutorial somewhere with pictures i could look at? or is it as simple as it is with a desktop?

    thanks

Yes, it really is simple - I can't believe that places like BB charge $30 for something I could probably teach my 4yo to do with her hand-me-down notebook (except I've already upgraded the RAM in hers :))..... Here's your tutorial:

First, and most importantly, GROUND yourself before proceeding or wear antistatic bracelet; also remove the battery.
    1. Remove screw and pop the RAM cover off.
    2. Pull clips off side of RAM stick and it will pop up at 45 degree angle.
    3. Remove RAM.
    4. Fully insert new stick at 45 degree angle - it only goes in one way.
    5. Push down and clips should click.
    6. Replace RAM cover. Reboot and check in XP/Vista to confirm RAM is seen by OS.

I'd like to know how it works out... I was under the impression that the dimms had to be the same.

Yes, those modules will be fine. I just upgraded my G1S to 4 gigs. I took some pictures of a complete breakdown of my G1S. I've included a section dedicated to replacing the ram modules. I took tons of pictures of everything. Here ya go:

Also, I made a thread about the other modfications I've done:

Adding them is a breeze and you'll definitely enjoy the increased performance. Hope that helps

No, you can install different memory size chips and the notebook will just default to asymmetric mode, and LOTS of users around here have upgraded the G1 to 3GB. In fact, that was the recommended upgrade in the G1-series over 2x2GB (unless a later BIOS revision fixed the confirmed performance drop seen with 4GB installed).

Dual-channel in notebooks provides a minimal (<5%) performance bump anyway, in contrast to it's significant advantage in desktop motherboards, which is likely to be outstripped by the extra 1GB memory he's talking about adding.
