Eh, that's not the point, we all sympathized with him the first 2 pages of the thread...now it just seems like he's trying to draaaggggg it out.

No one is arguing that he shouldn't feel bad that his screen is scratched. He seems to be making such a big deal over a little matter like that, especially since he scratched it. It was an accident yes, but he's still reponsible. If I got a new car, and it got marked up, I'd be pissed yes. But the reality of the situation would be "It's not the end of the world!" If I can't find who did it, then I cut my loses and try and get it repainted. I won't try to sell it, just to get another one right after. Is there any guarantee that as soon as I get the new one it won't get marked up again?
-
All i know is if he was complaining forever for the keyboard flex. And how could asus make a keyboard like that wait till he gets an acer. The entire pc flexs nevermind the keyboard and that silver paint sure scratches easily also. Hes gonna have a nervous breakdown.
kidding of course dont take offence sexy beast

i think im going to go ahead and call them tomrw and order one. i was on their site and are you sure they will have asus lcds? and 17inch? -
alright, i really need to figure out if this is going to be worth it. I called that Screen tek and it is $550cdn. That is insane.
I called ASUS directly in canada and they said its $480. -
need advice fast folks.
to sell, to fix, or ... -
at 1.5cm, a hairline scratch really shouldn't be that noticeable (except if you're obsessing over it). Besides, now you won't worry so much about other scratches on the lid, or palmrest or sneezing on your LCD.
like the new car, after the first scratch, it's no big deal.
i vote Keep it the way it is, or spend the money on a nice LCD for home rather than for the laptop.
it's only 1.5cm! -
But geez $480 just for a new one.I think most people would just sell it for $500 less and buy a new one.
-
-
Exactly most people would not sell it over a scratch. I sure wouldnt. its going to get more. Its a personal choice you want to sell then sell it. You want to keep then keep it. I would just keep it no need to buy a new LCD over that.
-
-
^ your logic escapes me, but that's okay.
Keep the thing or sell it for a loss and save your sanity.
The choice is YOURS. -
-
Leave the poor screen alone! So what if it has a little scratch? Do NOT try and fix the scratch yourself; you'll just end up frying the screen if you tinker with it. If it lights up, and has no dead pixels, just keep it and use it.
-
youre right flanken. It would be a waste of money if i were to sell it and get a new one. I will take pics of it and post back later tonight so everyone can see and judge. Its going to make me cry.
-
-
Its obvious, its not worth spending upwards of $550cdn to fix it, mind you the 1-2 week downtime without it. But then again I think it would be pretty hard to sell a laptop (though only 3 weeks old), with a minor nick on it. -
Just smash it with a hammer till its in little pieces and be done with it forever. Hammers can solve all problems.
-
Don't do anything. That's my advice. Very honestly ask yourself if this 'scratch' effects your computer use in any way. (Judging by your sudden mental reversal in computing needs I'm not entirely sure what these may be.) If you're anything like me you'll realize that this is a minor issue, in fact it's not really an issue at all. Things get damaged, it happens to everyone. You just happened to experience that a little earlier in your situation that most people do. Don't lose the money you've already spent on a lesser investment, selling this notebook and buying another with fewer capabilities will only leave you regretting the loss of your current one. Trust me, just keep it. If in a few months you determine that this 'scratch' is unbearable then replace your screen. $500 is about how much you'll lose no matter what you decide to do. Just remember, it's only a computer, it's only a computer, it's only a computer.
(by they way, am I correct in assuming that you're a girl?)
(If you're not, sorry for calling you a girl.) -
I say smash it with a hammer, then the scratch wont matter anymore = problem solved.
-
I'll give you $100 for the whole computer...even with a small scratch on the screen.
-
I bid 110$
-
You are right, keep it use it as is, try to forget about it. Like my daddy would always tell me, money dont come off trees, money isnt easy to come by, so when you have it, you better save it for something you really need, and dont go wasting it on unessecary stuff. This is a prime ex. of "not needed" stuff. -
oh and you know what folks. instead of me bothering about spending a whole chunk of change on this, i should go ahead and buy (treat) my mom and dad to a plasma tv - something i have always wanted to buy them...a gift from me. THAT WOULD BE MONEY PUT TO MUCH BETTER USE.
$600 TO PAY for new LCD< thats a almost a week and a half of work for me. -
^ Not to go to far off topic here but DON'T SPEND MONEY ON A PLASMA. Get a DLP instead - more affordable and a better picture IMO.
Now here's John with the weather... -

i got pics of the mark, this really hurts, its painful to stare at this baby.

I sympathize with you. That would drive me crazy! I couldn't even live with a dead pixel, even when you ddn't see, because I knew it was there. Did you ever call the company that puts the clear coats on lcds?
-
which co? clear coats? to conceal it? id be intereested in that... -
i am so so so tempted to get an acer 4202 duo core tomrw, but someone tell me not to and hopefully i can still make this z83v work for me. cause i love the 17'', i love the tv tuner, i dont wanna give it up just like that unless i have to.
-
This thread is still going???
Dude many people have given you suggestions and I'm sure all your options are right in front of you nicely laid out by the members of this forum.
Either get it fixed, sell it, or just live with it.
PERIOD, DONE. -
This was the article I was thinking of. Maybe if you called, they could help. I could not find the other thread about them. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2756

Try and calm down.
First you say you don't need the 17" or the TV tuner, now you say you love them. You talk about running out and buying a cheaper laptop, but then you're interested in other suggestions for fixing the screen. I'd say you need to relax for a second and think about what you really want. Try this: if price were not an issue, would you prefer this notebook over the others you've seen? If the answer is yes, then don't run out and buy anything else until you've actually spent the time to REALLY find out what your options are.
Try using the notebook as-is for a few days -- maybe you'll find that the scratch really isn't that bothersome. If it doesn't get in the way too much, then you could always make do for now and then buy an external monitor or have the screen replaced later. Again, from what you've said, there doesn't seem to be any reason to run out and buy a cheap notebook right away -- besides, if the keyboard flex is bothering you on this notebook, I doubt an Acer is going to be much better.
Yes, the stratch sucks, but it's certainly not a worst case scenario (cracked screen? dead motherboard? fire?) . Give yourself a few days to calm down, and then come back and ask for advice and make a rational decision.
-
Good advice Bootstrap. Calming down is a great thing, helps you think straight
-
Anyways, my answer to your question, would be an astounding yes.
Anna - I did call that company yesterday, in that link you posted, and its $600cdn to get a new LCD. No point, since i can get it directly from ASUS for $550cdn. What happened to their so called $100 or discounted LCDs? ya right
I thought about this long and hard last night and said. If I were to sell this, the most i would get would be maybe $1150cdn. I paid $1950. How I see it is, dock $550 for wht it would cost to get a new LCD, and $200-250 for it being used. So thats easily $750-800 off. To me, that is a freaking HUGE disgusting loss, money down the toilet.
Whereas if i were to get it fixed, it would just cost me the $550 or whatever it would cost to fix it. But it brings up my cost, so i would technically be paying $2500 for a $1950 notebook.
The good thing about selling though, is that i could settle for a much less expensive notebook. -
to be honest..if i saw that after showing a public forum pictures, where they couldnt even see the scratch...i would keep it..there is no point just to sell something at a huge loss just because of one imperfection..i can understand the pain, but the same thing happened to me right after i bought a 17inch LCD..cousin threw a speaker at me..missed, hit right into the screen..now it has a nice gash in it, about an inch long...things happen. move on and get on with life. there isnt any reason you cant..i know it hurts to look at it, but why waste the money? do not sell it..keep it..you say you like everything in the notebook, and you wouldnt pick anything over this...here is your chance to prove it...keep it and enjoy it..one day it will become normal, and you wont even notice it... also, if you love that notebook..why settle for something inferior? its tough not to be mean here, but life sucks, get a helmet.
pb,out. -
Im trying to live with it, and frankly the last thing I need right now is to throw money down the toilet. But how I see it right now is, Ive already wasted $2000 down the toilet, as my notebook is already hurt. Its like buying a car, and within the first month, the hood is dented. It will always be on your mind, no matter how long you use it. You get used to seeing it, and it will bother you.
Like I said, I really really really wish this didnt happen. You know when something happens, and you say to yourself "this cant be real", would like to turn back time, well this is it! I would do anything to make this mark go away, anything!!!
FIxing it would be cheaper than selling it for another one. -
would doing anything entail selling it for a huge loss, only to settle for something of inferior quality?
that is the only thing you should be asking yourself right now.
pb,out. -
Is there anyway you can post a picture showing the extent of the damage? this could serve two puropses, 1) there maybe someone out there who sees the scratch as a non-issue an is willing to buy the notebook at a decent price. 2)we can findout if u r crazy or not for wanting to sell. IMHO you should put up with the scratch its not worth the loss of cash or ****pier notebook.

I would consider another ASUS as well, but the fact theyre only depot in canada is 5hrs away with a 1-2 week turnaround time, it will make me think twice. -
Does anyone know if theW2V uses the same LCD screen as my z83v? If it does, I found someone who i can order from at a fairly decent price. Still alot but less than asus. That is if this will work in my z83v
http://www.screentekinc.com/ASUSNotebook__Asus_W2V__lcd-screens.html
They are both glossy, and 17.1 so i dont see why it wouldnt work. Besides i would be upgradnig my current WXGA to an WSXGA.
Ahhhh Im Freaking Out, Im Freaking Out!!!
