My Video files have sound, but no video playback. I tried various video drivers, have the new ones installed downloaded from asus. Tried system restore. However, I did install all updates and patches for windows before testing video file playback, so that may be an issue. I also downloaded all klite codec pack, and still nothing works. Tried various media players windows, nero, and even VLC..nothing works. Anyone got a fix? I have 308 BIOS installed and did a system restore then updated windows with all updates. I have a feeling that is the culprit...
OH, I have an ASUS V1Jp, with 2 GB RAM. Everything else stock.

Heh, might help to know which OS you're running. The new V1Jp with the Vista Business preloads are already floating around.

I loaded CCCP into mine, all my videos seem to work fine. I didn't upgrade my BIOS, but I do have 2 GB.

Is the system giving blue screens or just simply saying the CODEC was not found?

I have XP pro installed, no blue screens with this problem, though I was getting them at one point, another reason why I did a system restore..just in case.
OH, I installed xp codecs as well as the other codec pack..to no avail.
I'm gonna do another system restore and NOT update xp with the updates..see what happens...

found culprit. MICROSOFT. Installed Genuine advantage tool to update..video files stop working. Garbage software. I'd use Ubuntu if I could get the resolution to what I like!

Besides the the bad windows update file, you will want the following things to play files.

    K-Lite codec pack (klcodec284f)
    VLC
    Windows Mediac Player Classics

I have found zero problems with regards to any movie, video, clip or anything using these in combination.

Well, I thought it was the activeX while doing updates through MS was the problem. I used windizUpdate, a site that used other browsers to update and does not use the active X. It worked. So I thought. I then converted FAT32 to NTFS and rebooted again. Files stopped working. I did try the K-Lite codec pack and VLC, they will still not play video files. There is sound and the file opens to the first frame or 2, then freezes. This is really driving me crazy. I've done a system restore 5 times now! could the BIOS be something? I had updated the BIOS to 308 a while back.

Problem solved...or not. I found the cure, and that was to disable write combine and move the hardware acceleration slider all the way to the left in display properties, settings, advanced, troubleshoot. So, now my video files work, but will it play games? Does this mean there is an issue with my Video card??? Help. I'm about to test a game on it..we shall see.... :(
