I am looking for alternatives to the W3J power supply. I found this one but I am not sure if it will work with it. Is anyone using an aftermarket power brick? If so what kind?

You may want to check if they have the right plug for Asus notebooks. I've looked at Kensington but didn't see that they had the right adapter to plug into the W3J.

And the W3J brick is 90W so I would stick with at least that wattage.

Why do you want to use an aftermarket power adapter? What kind of advantages would it have over the stock one?

I don't know about the W3J but for the two ASUS notebooks I have the power adapters are pretty small and light... I personally haven't seen other notebooks with smaller and lighter adapters.

One reason for which you might want another adapter is to have one that charges the battery slower (i.e., with smaller current) to increase battery life... All these new adapters push charge into the battery really fast.

Edit: or maybe that's what you meant by "small" :)

A 60w or something around there would work also. I'm not sure how many watts the W3j uses, but I know for power supplies, that you need at least the wattage that your notebook uses. Then if you want to charge your notebook while using it (most people do :p ) then your going to need something bigger than that... Otherwise you'd be stuck with charging the notebook when it's powered off...

You could always purchase another Asus branded power brick. It should cost ~30 bucks, I think...

You could try the iGo power supplies. We use them for our laptops at work (toughbooks). As far I as have been there (2.5 years now), we haven't had a problem with them yet.

Go to igo.com and you can figure out how powerful of a brick you want. Plus you can get different tips so you can use the same power supply for different things...or even charge 2 things at once (like your phone and laptop). It's smart idea/concept. You just need to buy the separate tips.

I used their tip finder thingy and they say to get tip # 16...that will fit our W3 series.

I might do that myself actually...but not anytime soon. But I want to do it so I only have to travel around with one brick that can plug into a car or other country outlets while charging my phone, camera, and laptop! :D

Let us know if you end up getting something and how it well it works.
