I need to get in touch with someone regarding my orders for a Vista upgrade that I placed with Moduslink in January of this year, almost 7 months ago. I placed two orders, one for each of my Asus A8J notebooks which came with a Free Vista Express upgrade. The moduslink website still shows my orders as "Order received", there is no estimated shipping date, and I am not able to contact anybody from that company via email or phone. I have emailed them so many times and I always get the same automated reply from them telling me to check the webpage for my order status. I tried calling them at their toll free number and there is only a recording saying that the upgrade process has ended and I should check their website. What the bloody hell is wrong with these people?

I am entitled to two free vista upgrades, I don't want to just give up on these idiots. What should I do? Any ideas?

I'm still waiting for mine, but they said 4-6 weeks on the last week of May.

You SHOULD call them to be sure that everything is okay, though.

    Did you call 800-817-5602?

I have sent in everything and the orders were approved. They are at "Order Received" which is the stage before shipped, but its been that way for like 4 months now.

Yes, I called them and they simply have a message that plays saying check the website. It doesn't look like they have any more people actually working on this thing because I cannot get in touch with anybody there. All I get are automated responses via email and the same old voice message when I call.

    Its so damn frustrating!!

OMG, I can't believe this. I finally get a hold of someone at Moduslink by randomly hitting numbers on my phone while the message to check the website is playing. This lady picked up and said she can check my orders. Note that their website, which is supposed to show the status, has said "order received" for the past 4 months. She tells me she doesn't know why the website says that because the system shows my orders were canceled! I was so angry. She tells me that because it is past the deadline now, they can't do anything about it. They can't put anymore orders in. I was like how was I supposed to know it was canceled when every attempt I made to get a status on them told me to look at the website, which showed false information. She says they are sorry but there is nothing they can do. Told me to contact Asus or Microsoft.

I cannot believe this. Two vista upgrades that I was entitled to are gone. Would anybody blame me for pirating the software at this point?

Does anybody here, MilestonePC, ProPortable, etc.. have any advice as to who I should contact in Asus about this?

    Thanks,
    RA

Call them back. If the POP and order was in the system, they should be able to put in another order since it's an OEM thing. I was on the phone with a guy and he told me the exact same thing. But then I told him that it was an ASUS laptop and that I got an email telling me to call them, he went and checked with someone for a few minutes and then came back saying that I was right and that he could actually still do something about it.

'course, I don't have the unit in hand yet, but still...

She seemed pretty sure that they can't do anything about it. She said they kept extending the upgrade process and Microsoft eventually told them to stop. They can no longer ship out any discs for any reason. Told me my only option was to deal with Asus.

I just have no idea who to get in touch with at Asus. Anybody know a point of contact for something like this?

Umm... the deal is somewhat with Microsoft and ASUS. During the period, Microsoft was providing upgrades to Vista for any XP OEM purchase. They were giving away redemption coupons with XP OEM and the major OEMs were publicizing this free upgrade for any PC purchased with the "Vista Capable" sticker during the qualifying period.

Microsoft takes care of the redemption coupons themselves, but the major OEMs have their own custom deal and they "take care" of those things instead of Microsoft.

If she's saying Microsoft said so, then she's probably talking about is the redemption coupons that were being given out for OEM Windows XP, *NOT* for the LAPTOP upgrades. They might try to shrug you off with that since it's much easier for them. MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR THE PERSON'S NAME. Easier if you have it so that you can complain later if they brushed you off.

If you had made the order long ago and you sent in the proof of purchase, they SHOULD be able to do something about it. It's NOT a new order, it's a replacement order.

I got mine in the mail the other day. It looks like the plastic DVD shells you get from the OEM Vista but without any papers on it. The DVD is plainly visible through the front and has a Vista COA on the back which you're supposed to stick on your laptop. The DVD is NOT HOLOGRAPHIC (it looks like the ASUS restore disk that comes with the laptop). It also comes with an ASUS CD drivers shrink-wrapped on the side.
