AmIcoSingLun.exe- What the hell is this??

Simple question..Should i keep it or uninstall it??

PS: this program is always running in the process list in Task Manager.

Notes When different cards are inserted into the card reader, it shows different icons according to the inserted card type.

 

Well a QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH (for "What is reveals this, then another quick google for the name of the company revealed in the first post comes up with this, as manufactured by the company that first link found.

So is it harmful? I guess that depends what you're doing on your computer. I guess it might be harmful, but it might not. Perhaps you'll need to do some research (googling is research now? wow...) and come to your own conclusions.

 

Well, google was my first resort before starting this thread. As far i as i understood, it is a spyware/malware scanning program. useless is what most people said and it actually is a threat more than a useful program.

To check if there are any abnormalities in your net connection in regards to this program,
go to cmd> netstats -an

if you only have one ip..you are safe..but if you have more than one..then there are trojans/viruses monitoring your pc.
this is what i learnt from google atleast.
PS:i have like atleast 15 ips...donno what most of them are.

0.0.0.0 is null
the other long stuff is IP6 crap

I dont think i have ever had the need for a card reader..never used it..but who knows..may be i will at some point..
Might as well leave it . But i definitely dont want that at startup.!!

 

it works with the generic microsoft ones, so you can uninstall it. You might get latency problems that way, but you might not.

 

Just leave it, its only the card reader driver.

 

I also was concerned about this on my G73. Turns out it was just a card reader.

 

That program uses only 2mb of your 8Gb. So, what is the problem to keep it?

 

Like i said ,I dont need it..actually, I have never even used a card reader before. So why waste that 2MB on something i dont want.

But for the record. I dont want to uninstall it. Just wanted to take it off startup, which i Did..

 

See if you can find it in your system's services list (through the Administrative Tools menu in Control Panel). Right-click and go to Properties, if the StartUp type is "automatic," you can (a) stop the service and (b) change the StartUp type to "manual." If you ever need it, you can change it back to "automatic."

Or, if you have a restore CD with all your system's original applications and drivers, (a) verify that this application is on that CD, and (b) uninstall it. If you ever need it, you can reinstall it from your restore CD.

But just changing the properties so it starts manually should be enough. Also, before you forget it's there, try to find whether it has a Preferences or Options menu. If it has an icon in your system tray or if you can find it in your programs, right-click and check whether it allows you to set options or preferences, then go through the choices to make sure that it's not automatically checking for updates (i.e., regularly "phoning home" without your permission). Again, if you ever need it, you can go to the manufacturer or your laptop vendor for updates.

In general, a lot of stupid little apps I hardly use, or don't care too much about, are set by default to "check for updates automatically." Apps like Acrobat Reader, Logitech mouseware, etc. I've gotten used to checking for that every time I install an app, and make sure it's unchecked, or set so that it seeks permission before going online.

For example - Logitech mouseware, I allow it to look for updates. But Acrobat Reader - don't need them, I use another PDF reader.

 

I had done all that to see if it is present in the services list when i saw this .exe itself. not there.. Anyhoo, its a software for the card reader. I just unchecked it from launching at startup. That should do it for the time being till i actually need it.
Btw, i dont keep my system to update automatically. I like to do them manually. So i am sure, its not downloading any updates on its own.

PS: if you dont use acrobat, why do u still keep it? i dont and i uninstalled it after i got he laptop.
