First of all, I'd like to send out a HUGE thanks to Justin and ProPortable - without them, this thread would not exist. And now, here's the story.
Background:
So after purchasing the Z63A, naturally my brother would get my M6Ne. However, there was some serious screen wobbling going on and I knew that this could NOT have been the way Asus wanted their systems to be. I then learned that one of the screw inserts in the lid were loose/broken, which made the screen wobbley. Out of pure coicidence, Justin had a few old promotional M6Ne lids in stock from way back... and so I was able to acquire one from him.
And so today, I spent a couple of hours removing the old lid and installing the new one. Of course, here attached to this post are some photos. If you would like to see a few more, just request and I will take a couple of shots![]()
I love the laser engraving... it's subtle, but definitely something different. I really don't know why more resellers don't do this sort of thing! Also, personalizing these notebooks would probably make it a LOT easier for you to spot your notebook if somebody had stolen it, don't you think?
Anyway, enough talking... enjoy the pics! I used flash for some and without flash for others. (more to come in a little while)

Wow.... the light reflecting off the engraving makes it pop out like it's silver.... not that it would look bad like that, but it's a lot more subtle than it looks with flash.. if you could take one without, they might get a better feel for it..... but a picture I took of those same lids years ago is actually what my little avitar to the left is from... it's just a negative image of it...
.. the last picture probably looks the most accurate.... but anyway, glad to help.. and thanks for giving others some ideas, maybe it'll get their juices flowing for other possibilities and maybe we'll offer a custom service soon.... if I can get other examples of what I've done with it... I'll make sure to post them.
... on a side note, that foose lid was done with a different technique... it was actually sandblasted where as the one above was laser cut.... I can't really explain the difference in the finished product, but the sandblasting requires a lot more prep and creates a lot more mess. -
Awesome, I like the graphics.
Lucky you AuroraS, what if he didn't have any? haha -
If you don't mind my asking... how much does it cost to get a laptop engraved? It looks gorgeous.

We usually do it for large businesses and colleges that get tons of systems and want their logo's in them and maybe names or serials placed in a corner.... It's easy to space the cost out on those..
For individual systems, it's more complicated and the reason we haven't gone in that direction in terms of offering the option.... but what we're going to do is get together maybe a 6-10 logos.... ours, asus', some cool designs maybe... and those would have a nominal charge based on labor and co2 costs for the laser.... For custom stuff, which is where I think it would really get cool, you're looking at CAD time.. Basically if you could sketch something up and scan it, we can turn it into a vector image and basically print the engraving right to the system.... That's a lot more time and it's costly time at that. Some people who may come up with their own designs and send them over in the proper format could then get theirs done at the cost of the stock options.
I haven't priced this out in a while... but probably somewhere between $0 for our logo as it's advertising for us obviously..... and then maybe $45-65 for some stock options..... and just knowing the time involved... probably get up into 100-200 for custom ones depending on the time and size of them.... It's a lot more impressive than that logo shows.. but we can do different depths, from a scratch, to all the way through the lid.... so if you think about it like a semi-3d piece of art... it could be pretty cool.
.... honestly I guess it would be a lot like getting a tattoo.... for your laptop. It's not a sticker and it's not paint.. it's there for a good... and the costs involved in making it happen are probably pretty close to how they'd price out a tat from stock to custom design, to size, to time and colors.. -
A few more... (no flash). Sorry that my camera sucks...but you really have to see it in person to see how awesome it looks! If you think it looks good in the pictures, you'll fall in love with the engraving in person...seriously. It almost makes me want to take the old M6Ne again and give my brother my Z63A...
