So I unpackage my shiny new G51Vx-A1, and give it a good once-over ontop of the bed (wouldn't want it falling on something hard :p ) As I'm turning it around in admiration, a small black rubber o-ring falls out of the large primary exhaust vent  Should I be worried? Who knows where abouts inside it came from...

Darn, I was wondering where I lost that o-ring. Pleas ship to Planet Earth, Milky Way.

    LOL

Perhaps it goes where the squirrel cage meets the fan. Its actually a fan belt.

Turn it on then. If it's a crucial part, and it blows up or something, Asus will replace it or fix it.

I'd check the plumbing, you might have a problem.

HEhee! Well this ring is so small it would fit around a case screw's threading could fit inside it so i didnt think it was a belt or any kind... And the fan is turning, tried a game and the fan speeds up when the temps go up.

Nothing has blown up yet, and there's been no weird noises or vibrations (if it was for dampening around a screw mount) It's true ASUS will fix it if it blows up, but that's a big inconvenience I could do without. No ill results so far, but it's still strange. It could easily just be something that accidentally slipped in the case during assembly.

As for the plumbing, I'll assume you guys mean the heat pipes (thats if they still contain a liquid heat transferring agent these days). Nothing seems to be visibly leaking, but then again I'm not about to remove too much and void any warranty.

The squirrels will be disappointed to hear about that.

Glad to hear nothing going wrong. And is in good order.

    Enjoy the new toy

    mine is even weirder.......
the vents on the side of my a1 is blowing very hot air all the time well if its supposed to be the vents for the cooling fan, doesn't it make sense it would blow cool air? well in any case i may just RMA this sucker :(
and in regards to the plumbing. mine kept getting plugged and i broke the little plunger mine came with so i just took it out.... could this be the reason why its blowing hot air? and do you guys think i void my warranty doing it?

On a more serious note, the vent(s) on any notebooks is designed for one purpose: An opening permitting the escape of heat from the notebook.
It is normal for the vent to feel warm/hot and this is a sign that your notebook is ridding the heat from your system. Similarly, you should be worried if no air is being pushed out which could signify a faulty fan and/or heatsink.
