Anandtech has reviewed the A8Js, G2P against the "more" gaming oriented (because of the Go 7900 GTX) Z5.

It's definitely an interesting read. Turns out the A8Js is faster than the G2P in gaming, especially noticable at lower quality settings or when AA and AF is disabled. At higher settings the gap closes (obviously), and I guess it's really up to the user to decide what setting is more useful. Personally, I think the later is since as long as the frame rate is above 30 fps, you might as well turn up the quality.

They don't mention what drivers they used, but the A8Js has been upgraded. It has 2x1GB of RAM, which I guess is fair to match the G2P. But, ASUS also equipped the A8Js with a 7200rpm HDD, which probably helped it. The G2P had a 160GB 5400rpm perpendicular drive which is very good but still slower than a 7200 rpm one.

Anyways, love to see what people think. Based on the results though, it is valid question to wonder why ASUS put a X1700 in a gaming 17" laptop? Although I suppose it does have price, battery life, and thermal advantages over the Go 7900GTX in the ABS Z5.

Summary of Anandtech reaction: X1700 on a "gamer's laptop?" Odd...

I was just about to post this...

Overall a very favorable review for the Asus models, I thought.
