    Asus W3V

My DVD drive just SUDDENLY stopped working when I turned it one today.

    Device Manager says:

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

One very simple fix I've seen for this problem is, pull out the drive and reseat it. Sometimes hot-swapable drives get a little loose or something.

Nope, tried that twice and still it doesnt work.

This is really annoying, there's no reason behind it.

    I'm ringing Asus

Code 41 normally means some kind of software malfunction. Seen it a dozen times before with modems and even cd roms in desktops. Fastest solution is to reinstall windows as i was never able to fix it by fidling around with drivers and such.

Thanks, I was contemplating a system restore but thought I'd try the other ways first.

    Cheers for the help.
