I was in dire need of a faster machine, as I am a VFX artist and AfterEffects has a hunger for resources.

I went on a limb and purchased the Asus G74SX-DH72 from GenTechPC.com (which is conveniently only about three miles from where I live).

I'd like to know if you think this machine will have what it takes to reduce my time wasted on waiting for frames to render.

Also, I've been out of the gaming scene for a few years but I'd love to check out Battlefield 3--how well would this machine run it, and at what settings?

My budget was $2500, so I chose wisely.

    Here are the specs(that matter):

    Graphics Controller
    nVidia GeForce GTX 560M 3GB GDDR5, DX11

    Processor
    2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2760QM, 2.4-3.5GHz,32nm, 6MB, 45W

    Thermal Compound
IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound on both CPU/GPU (Free with CPU Upgrade)

    RAM
    16GB DDR3 1333 Dual-Channel (4G X 4)

    Primary Hard Drive
120GB OCZ Vertex 3 Solid State Drive SSD SATA III 6Gb/s

    Secondary Hard Drive
    750GB 7200rpm SATA II 16MB 3GB/s (Standard)

kinda need more info to compare this with. were you coming from a desktop or laptop? specs of the machine you're comparing this from?

also for the price of 2500$ you could also have gotten a sager with 6990m or possibly a 580m (with upgraded screens too) which are way more powerful than the 560m.

Im coming from an HPDV7T-3000 (i7 1.73-2.3) with 8gigs ram and a 320m gfx card. And as far as what I could have got, thats rather pointless as GenTech did not offer those options. And Asus has an extremely high customer satisfaction rating over Sager.
