Lately I have been having a few problems with my new w3v and you guys have been very helpful to me. So, I am hoping that will continue. My latest issue is that my laptop has been shutting down on me at will it seems. It only happens when I have it on for a while and I have it plugged up to charge the battery and run off of AC power. Does anyone know what is causing this and how I can fix it? It is very annoying and it is preventing me from downloading any large files or converting any video files.

Oh yeah, in addition to whats above. I think It might have something to do with the notebook hardware controls software. Maybe I just need to change some settings, but I wouldn't know what to change the settings to if that is even the problem. Help me please.

I know its not the power options because I have it set to never turn off the screen or hard disks when it is running on AC power

Probably power option. My z70va does that too even when it's plug into the wall. However, it never does it when i'm downloading file, only when it's idle for at least 10 mins with no process running.

Try checking your power options everytime you turn on your laptop.

For some reason it seems my power settings change according to how fully charged my battery was the last time I used my w3v.

For instance, my battery drained completely and so I charged my laptop and let it sit for 3 minutes and it went into hibernate. I checked the settings and it seems they automically re-adjusted.

    Mine does this too.

It happened TWICE when i was USING the laptop. it just SHUT OFF.

The other times it happened has been when i left the laptop alone for awhile. I guess then it just goes into some sort of sleep mode..maybe? I dont know

    but its really weird.

Its not the power settings. I have my computer set up to never turn off or go into hibernate if it is plugged up. The only time it can hibernate is if it is running on the batterry, but the shutdown problems don't occur when its running on battery. It only happens when the computer is plugged up. Does anyone know how to fix this?

What does Asus Probe report as your CPU temperature and fan speed? Excessively high CPU temperature would trigger a shut down. This situation is less likely to occur when running on battery.

I see that my hardware control software is set to turn of the hard disks at 75 degrees Celsius. Do you think that this may be what is causing the shutdowns. If so, should I change that setting or some other setting to help with the problem.

I think the problem may be with the notebook hardware controls software itself. I read a post somewhere in which another asus owner was saying that their hardware controls software caused their notebook to crash when switching bewtween ac and dc power. My w3v is behaving in the same manor. I usually run it on battery power but If i plug it up shortly after it crashes. Does this sound like it could be the problem to anyone else? And if so, how do I fix it?
