Like many others I am trying to decide between the w3v and z70v. I am a developer mainly using Visual Studio so I love lots of screen real estate, but I hate weight. I will also be running a SQL server instance and VmWare so I'll max out the RAM on whichever I go with. I will game a bit as well. I feel sure that the horsepower is there with either notebook, it is just a choice between screen size and weight. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments?

    Stop caning resellers!!

They both weigh just about the same. The Z70v has a sharper screen and it's bigger. 15.4" WSXGA+ screen. Is that enough real estate for you?

from the specs released.. the W3V only equals the Z70 in weight if the former has an optical drive and the latter has that space saver..

if you have a really nice monitor..what you could do is go for the smaller w3v which would be easier for you to be "mobile", then you can come home and hook it up to a nice large monitor. that's what Justin does and what I've considered as well too. but if you dont have the latter, then the Z70V would be a better choice.

All that I have read so far agrees with you about the Z70 screen. I'm just balancing that against the 1 lb difference and smaller form factor. I'm going to be using it on the road at a client's site 4 days a week.

I agree with Goren right now I have a desktop listed in my signature but I think its only a matter of time before that is starrting to collect dust on the desk. Of course from Nov 1 to about the !st or 2nd week of march I'm on layoff so I may start using the desktop more during that time. But I admit I'm really loving the portability of the W3V!!!

Thank you everyone, this is good stuff. I'll be using the built-in screen most of the time (I do have a nice 1600x1200 Planar flat panel for the desktop in the office and a good 19" Hitachi at home). I've been simulating the W3V screen size by adjusting the size of my terminal services window I use when I remote into the office desktop from home. It is a big dropoff from 1600x1200. I highly recommend this technique for comparing the workspace usefulness of different screen resolutions.
