    Hi,

To cut the long story short.....

I have a G50Vt-X1 I got from Best Buy on 10/31/08 and I upgraded the VGA driver to 180.70 and it worked well. Last night when I was using it, I opened World of Warcraft and at the log in screen, the laptop froze and there are several pink crooked lines across the whole screen horizontally. I tried CTRL+ALT+DEL but it didn't work, so I pressed and held the power button to shut it off. Then after waiting for 5 secs and turning it on, the pink lines are on the boot screen vertically (where republic of gamers logo is) and it wont go into the OS anymore. Then after several restarts, the republic of gamers logo wont show up anymore. I can only hear the background sound now. The OLED is blank for about 3 mins and then shows up. The laptop restarts itself after 5 mins. All this happens with a blank black screen. Tried everything that I know would make it work, but still no luck. I think it's a video card failure... but who knows...

So my question is, am I covered by the manufacturer's warranty? Or should I have gotten a warranty from Best Buy in the first place? What should I do next? I'm really naive when it comes to dying laptops.

    Thanks!

It hasn't been 30 days. I would talk to Best Buy asap and see what your options are.

6 weeks out, this is probably an Asus warranty issue, but you'll have to call Asus North America tech support to ask (and be sure to be specific about the -X1 model you have) - sometimes the warranty for the BB exclusive units are handled by BB.

Either way, you should hopefully be covered (although obviously the crash was precipitated by user action, so that's why I'm hedging :)).

Best Buy and Black Friday is a bad mix - wait until Sat or something.

Yeah I know BB plus BF is terrible... but I have to do report it to them so they won't give me the excuse that I didn't report it right away. Plus I'm kinda weary about the 30-day thingy, even if I know that it only has a 14-day return policy. Hoping that they can work it out for me.

I'm debating if I should call ASUS first before going to BB, or BB first, then call ASUS if BB can't help me...

Thanks again for the support guys. I'll keep you updated.
