    Good Evening,

This is my first post here, as I am new to this site. I purchased a G2P tonight and will be picking it up tomorrow. It is predominately for work and I shall be removing Vista and installing XP Professional (conflict with software at work, Vista doesn't work). I was wondering if anyone here owns or has used a G2P (17" brother of the G1) and what your thoughts on it are?. I game sometimes on whatever laptop I own at the time, but I use my OverdrivePC mainly for that.

Any thoughts or issues regarding the G2P that you could pass my way would be greatly appreciated.

    Respectfully yours,

    Hazmat :)

One of the big reasons why I would use this notebook is because of the big and beautiful screen. You can have a look at my review written.

There are a few other owners here, hopefully they would see this.

I've had one for almost two weeks. Mine has XP MCE on it. So far so good. Mine is more a multi use PC. I have a company laptop for the work. I've played a few games on it, Supreme Commander Demo for one. It runs smooth as silk.

I prefer a 17 inch model due to the bigger screen. My wife has a 17 inch Toshiba and I like it that big . Also I liked the look of the G2 and it has everything I need for work. I will basically mount the comp in my 1 ton and thats where it stays with the exception of me bringing it in at night so it isn't stolen.

A 15.4" laptop is fine and the specs of the V1JP are nice, but thats not what I want now. Also there is a certain program that I use for work and the bigger screen even though it's not that much bigger, will help me immensely. It's a security related program that keeps track of various things & people for me.

Thanks guys for your for your response/questions. :) Is there any issues with the G2P that either of you know? I searched the forums & other places on the net, but didn't find much.

Thanks wvu99 that sounds good. I was hoping to get XP MCE or preferabley XP Professional, but ASUS told me they are not shipping anymore with MCE hence I got stuck with Vista.

One of the reasons I am going with the G2 is the review that MilestonePc did last month.

    Thanks all, it's greatly appreciated

I have had one since the first week of Jan, I love it, I take it with me to school, I have played games on it, and I have compressed DVD's down to MPG4, the laptop is fast and no where near as hot as my AMD 3400+ Gateway laptop. That laptop would hit 80+c when working hard, this never gets above 60c. All is not perfect though with this laptop, tha camera is not all that great, and I tried to "upgrade" the internal wireless card with no luck. The thing that angers me most is ATI, the new Catalist 7.2 driver was released today and again no support for us, this pisses me off! There has been ZERO support from ATI/AMD, or ASUS on this problem. The latest drivers are supposed to improve speed by as much as 40% in some games, we get NOTHING! I almost wish I had gone with the G1 just because Nvidia seems to support ther hardware better(don't get me wrong they have a nightmare on their hands with Vista drivers). Still it would be nice to see ATI support their own graphics chips.

I was about to buy it.. but I want to save extra $$$. Even though G2 is still a good computer both in outlook and the inside components parts. If i have the money I'd buy it... however the good looking computer easily caught attention of people in my campus which I might get stolen 1 day. :D

    Good Afternoon,

I picked up the G2P yesterday evening after the company I bought it from in Calgary, Alberta removed Vista and & installed XP Professional OS. Almost everything works like a charm, with the exception below. I must say this is one fast, beautiful notebook. I am very please with my decision thus far.

I do have a question though regarding Bluetooth. I have the BT-183 module installed and I'm looking for drivers that are XP based. The only drivers I have come across are Vista drivers for this Bluetooth module, its a fairly new one apparently. Does anyone know where I might find some XP drivers for it so that I can get it working.

Once again thanks everyone for all your input & assistance. It is always appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Haz

    Bump

Anyone know where I can find XP Professional drivers for my G2P Bluetooth BT-183 module. I removed Vista and had XP Pro installed, but alas I cannot find proper drivers to make Bluetooth work. I can turn on the bluetooth light on the status bar using the Fn & F2 keys, but nothing else works.

    Any help is greatly appreicated.

You might need to install ATK100 or sth (i'm not sure i typed right) application. This program takes control of special FN key button as well as some lights on laptops. I found out that I can only works my Wireless light on Z84J for 1 time and that's it. I can't turn it on anymore.

Look support.asus.com for drivers XP for G2 laptop

Thanks Khanhfat, I sent an e-mail to asus I'll see what comes out of that.
My function keys work well and I believe ATK100 is installed and working, just missing the drivers/stack for the bluetooth. : ) I just tried to play a DVD and it was set to something else besides North America and it won't play any DVDs I put in. I think I'll just go buy PowerDVD tomorrow and see if that straightens things out. Oh well not a big thing i guess.

    Thanks again

Well I still haven't heard from ASUS regarding my non-functioning bluetooth. Does anyone out there know where I can get drivers for my Bluetooth on my G2P Notebook. The light turns on when I hit Fn & F2, but nothing else.

I use my Notebook for work and it is imperative that I get the BT-183 module installed in it, working. I am switched to XP Professional as Vista is not, nor will be, compatible with my company's software for a year or two to come.

Any help would be great appreciated.

Did you browse the driver DVD that came with the notebook for bluetooth drivers? My G1 had them in a folder labeled Btooth on the DVD.

IRT Region issue if you right click on the DVD drive select Properties -> Hardware tab -> DVD Region you should be able to select the correct region from there.

Thanks Sparky33 I got it set to the right region, your help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately all drivers on the drivers CD that came with my Notebook are Vista Home Premium based. I bought a copy of XP Pro Os, as my reseller said there were no more XP Pro or XP MCE Notebooks to be had. As a result of this I then had the reseller switched it over to XP Pro. The reseller got all the XP drivers off of the Asus website with the exception of the Bluetooth drivers. Unfortunately there are no XP based BT-183 Module drivers for XP Pro on Asus's site. As they have not answered my e-mail queries I don't know when any will be released.

I was hoping someone here may have the drivers from a G2P XP Pro machine or maybe even XP Media Centre Edition. If nothing else maybe there might be a reseller here who has copies that I could buy from and have them shipped to me. To be honest I don't even know who makes the BT-183 module, if I knew that might help me in tracking down the correct drivers.

If any forums users or resellers out there can help, please pm or e-mail me. I can't overstate how important it is for me to get these drivers and get my Bluetooth working.

    Respectfully yours,

    Hazmat

Any1 got a pic of the AV in port , what's it look like, have you tried it yet?

I don't mean to hijack this thread but yesterday I discovered that the HDMI port on the Asus doesn't work. I check at my friend's house who has 2 HDTVs . 1 is PIoneer 60" and the other one is Samsung 40". When I plugged in the cord. It doesn't recognize anything. I have to email Asus for this issue. I always interested in Connecting my Laptop to TVs for videos and photos sharing

Since this thread has become the G2P lounge, would anybody feel brave enough to startup his G2P with a Linux livecd, something like Kubuntu 6.10 or the latest knoppix. I would be very interested to know what hardware is recognized and what will work out of the box.

I bought the WinDVD suite before I saw this, unfortunately. At least the suite performs as it should. I'll download VLC on to my other Notebooks.

    Thanks Khan. : )

I have been using my G2P now for about two weeks. I notice when I have a couple of programs open, i.e. winamp and Microsoft word (XP Pro & Microsoft Office Small Business 2003) and Word locks up. Though it has happened with just word open also. If I have a couple word documents open the only way I can un-freeze it is click another word document that is open on my task bar and then click back to the frozen word document and becomes unfrozen. When it's frozen I can still move the arrow of my mouse around the document, but when I click on a button in the tool bar up on top of the word tool bar nothing happens and the button does not light either.

Originally this was a Vista G2P version, but I had my reseller switch me over to XP Pro.

I am running a T7200 with 2 gigs and the other standard stuff that comes on a G2P.

I have Stardock on my comp and I was wondering if that might be causing the issue or if it's something else that someone may have experienced here.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Hazmat

I just got my G2 from Infonec yesterday and love it!
Ive been shopping for a 17" screen for the last lil while before i choose the ASUS. My original choice was the Sony AR150 with its amazing 17" screen and i must say this G2 Asus is the closest ive seen to match the Sony. The Sony blacks are blacker but not by a huge amt.

I just finished installing all the softwear from my old Sony and i ran the 3DMarks 03 version just to see how it stacked up.

    heres a screenshot of it
    http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/841/3dmarkmarch15gu4.gif

Im downloading 3DMarks05 now and will test that version.

Hi to every one! I am new here and new to Asus and have found this forum extremely interesting and useful. I received my G2P Vista two weeks ago and have been since tinkering around with it. I have two problems remaining:
    1. The incorporated microphone does not work and apparently is not even seen by the notebook, because I cannot find any trace of it. When I attach an external microphone it is detected but does not seem to work properly either. Should make more trials.
    2. Seeing TV(analogic, digital and Composite from a satellite decoder) or video files gives a poor image. Apparently there are on the background other signals (grains and colours) that don't allow to get a clear image and ruin the film colours. I have read of similar problems in other Asus models and people saying that this can be solved with a new bios (203 beta, not official) and that it's a know problem with ATI X1700. I have even downloaded an F3JP203 bios, but I don't dare use it because I am not sure that this will suit the G2P.
Would be grateful for advice or experiences in relation with the above issues.

With question 1, I can help u check if the microphone is on Mute or not. Double click on the speaker icon on the taskbar. Choose Options/ Advanced control. U'll see a volume bar for microphone. Usually by default they'll leave it mute so when the speaker plays, it won't interfere with the microphone.
